UFC veteran Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone was submitted by lightweight Joe Solecki during their submission-only bout at FURY Pro Grappling 3 on Thursday night.
FURY Pro Grappling 3 produced yet another enjoyable evening of grappling and submissions with several recognisable faces, such as Cerrone and Solecki, on show. For some involved, it was a chance to develop their groundwork, with others showing how good theirs already is.
One of the nights most anticipated contests saw Cerrone take on the younger, Solecki. After a rear-naked choke submission, the lightweight came out on top and saw him win at the 3:17 minute mark.
After the event’s success, it would be no surprise to see events like this one grow going into 2022. The event featured several other big names. In the main event, Kevin Holland, Clay Guida, Neil Magny and Carla Esparza, who replaced UFC strawweight champion, Rose Namajunas, all competed.
Humble in defeat, as usual, was “Cowboy” Cerrone, but with a new year looming, we have to imagine that he won’t be given too many more chances in the UFC. A rumoured scrap against up-and-comer, Paddy Pimblett, could be his last chance to stake his claim in the octagon.
As for Solecki, an impressive win against a veteran like Cerrone will only boost his confidence after a recent split-decision loss against Jared Gordon in their UFC bout in October.
What did you make of Joe Solecki’s performance on the night, and who else impressed you from the event on Thursday? Let us know!
