Rafael Dos Anjos confirmed that he had given the go-ahead and that a second fight should “certainly take place” at the UFC fight night on February 19th.
Five years ago, the 37-year old took on Tony Ferguson at the UFC event in Mexico City Arena Ciudad in a lightweight five-round matchup.
Having lost his lightweight title before their first duel, Rafael was up against a rejuvenated Ferguson, who had won in his last eight fights.
In an attempt to usurp the former champion, Ferguson made several changes and intense preparation while getting set for the great evening.
Ferguson bounced back from losing in the first two rounds and went on to win by unanimous decision after dominating performances in the latter stages. He established a record of nine straight UFC victories in the lightweight division.
Seeking to return to action, Rafael is willing to take on his old-time rival as he claimed to have given his consent to the UFC.
Rafael Dos Anjos Calls Out Tony Ferguson
“@TonyFergusonXT do you have plans for February 19? I gave @ufc green light on my end”- Rafael tweeted.
The 37-year-old Brazilian MMA fighter and former UFC lightweight champion rose through the ranks five years ago but had a hard time winning as he lost four of his five battles.
In that time, he faced off against the indefatigable Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington, another elite fighter. However, he recently returned to the 155-pound division and claimed a unanimous win over Paul Felder.
Despite undoubtedly being one of the best fighters in the lightweight division, Ferguson looks like he’s going through a rough patch off the back of three consecutive defeats.
Tony “El Cucuy” Ferguson has a career record of 26-6 UFC, and the bout seems poised to be entertaining if it goes through.
Do you think Ferguson would approve Rafeal’s request? If so, has Ferguson still got what it takes to end his series of defeats? Tell us your point of view!
