Tony Ferguson took aim at fellow lightweight Michael Chandler, accusing him of delaying a potential showdown in the Octagon. Chandler has now responded to ‘El Cucuy’ on Twitter.
Ferguson (25-6) is looking to bounce back from a three-fight losing skid. In his most recent bout, he lost decisively to #3 ranked lightweight Beniel Dariush at UFC 262.
Since dropping his third straight, Ferguson has directed his attention at other fighters looking to get into the win column, including Chandler who has lost two straight inside the cage.
“I’ll Beat You From Bell to Bell”
Taking to Twitter, Ferguson claimed that Chandler was intentionally delaying a potential matchup between the two.
“There’s My Bitch!!! @MikeChandlerMMA The Brass @danawhite @ufc Relayed Your Message Saying You Would Be Ready For Me April/June. Looks Like Your Trying To Delay That Ass-Whoopin’ I Owe Ya For Cutting In Line Kid- It’s Wrestling Season MF, Man Up- Champ”
Chandler (22-7) fired back quickly at the former interim champion to offer a little respect, and some words of warning.
“Oh Tony. There’s only a handful of guys in this game I truly respect…you’re one of them. Only because of your tenure, not your stature or your current presence in the division. I’ll beat you from bell to bell. Pray for a merciful ref. We shall see if this fight happens.”
Chandler most recently competed in a Fight of the Year candidate with Justin Gaethje at UFC 268. Since signing with the promotion, Chandler has gone 1-3, winning his debut against Dan Hooker via TKO. Since then, he suffered a TKO loss to current lightweight champion Charles Oliveira and a unanimous decision loss to Gaethje.
As two fighters looking to get back on the winning track, Ferguson vs. Chandler makes a lot of sense. Who do you see earning the W in this potential lightweight war?
