UFC Announces Two Big Match-Ups

The UFC announced two big match-ups today, including the return of fan favourite Alex Caceres.

Alex ‘Bruce Leeroy’ Caceres will take on fellow ranked featherweight Sodiq Yusuff at an event scheduled to take place on March 12. No location or venue has been announced for the event at this time.

A Career Resurgence

Caceres (19-12) has experienced somewhat of a career resurgence. ‘Bruce Leeroy’ went 6-7 inside the Octagon between 2014 and 2019. Since then, Caceres has gone streaking, winning five straight bouts. In October, his most recent win in the cage came against Seung Woo Choi. Caceres finished Choi in the second round via rear-naked choke.

Caceres also competed at Fury Pro 3 in a grappling match where he submitted Eddy Torres by RNC.

His opponent, Sodiq Yusuff (11-2), entered the UFC through an appearance on Dana White’s Contender Series in 2018. After earning a unanimous decision victory against Mike Davis, Yusuff went on a four-fight win streak. That streak ended in April when Yusuff lost to Arnold Allen via unanimous decision.

Both fighters are looking to work their way up the featherweight rankings. Caceres is currently on the border ranked #15, while Yusuff is in the #12 spot.

A Battle for Top 10 Status

Also announced by the UFC is a light heavyweight bout between Johnny Walker and Jamahal Hill

Walker vs. Hill is currently slated to take place at a UFC Fight Night card on February 12 per a report from MMA Fighting

Walker (18-6) came into the UFC and went on a four-fight winning streak, including his Dana White’s Contender Series victory over Luis Henrique de Silva. Walker has recently hit a bit of a rough patch, going 1-3 in his last four.

After back-to-back losses to Corey Anderson and Nikita Krylov, Walker bounced back with a big knockout win over Ryan Spann but followed that performance up with a unanimous decision loss to Thiago Santos in October.

Hill (9-1) is 3-1 in his last four bouts with big wins against Ovince St. Preux and Jimmy Crute. His lone loss in his pro career came against Paul Craig in June. Hill rebounded from that defeat, and KO’d Jimmy Crute just 43 seconds into their December bout.

Johnny Walker will be looking to hang onto his top 10 status. Hill is currently #12 in the UFC’s light heavyweight rankings and looks to break into the top 10 by handing Walker another loss.

The Feb. 12 UFC Fight Night is scheduled to take place in Las Vegas, but no main event has been announced for the card as of this writing.
