Alexander Gustaffson highly regards Khamzat Chimaev (10-0-0 4-0-0 UFC). He believes that he’s in pole position to overthrow Kamaru Usman, the current UFC welterweight champion. The Swede made his promotional debut in 2020 and has established himself as a force to be reckoned with. He has won all of his UFC bouts by stoppage.
Currently one of the most exciting prospects, Khamzat boasts an impressive record of ten straight wins and has never gone beyond the second round in any of his fights.
Alexander Gustaffson, full of praise for his teammate and predicted that ‘The Wolf’ has what it takes to defeat the current UFC champion, Kamaru Usman.
Alexander Gustaffson on Teammate Khamzat Chimaev
“I think he’d [Khamzat Chimaev] put Kamaru Usman to sleep honestly, I think if he just touches his chin, it’s a big chance that Kamaru, Kamaru Usman goes to sleep,” Gustafsson said. Gustafsson also conceded to being a great admirer of the UFC champion but still isn’t convinced he would be an exception to Khamzat’s previous opponents.
“I like Kamaru Usman, he’s a great champ, and he’s just been breaking records and like you know, it’s a pleasure to see him fight because he’s very good technically, you know I love his jab and his wrestling and you can see that he’s on top, Kamaru Usman. But I just can’t see him take Khamzat’s punches.”
Having agreed to square up in a private chat which was eventually made public, Khamzat is set to take on another elite fighter Gilbert Burns in an eye-watering welterweight fight on April 9. Gilbert Burns (20-4-0 13-4-0 UFC) recently earned a unanimous decision win over Stephen Thompson. They would be an excellent matchup for the undefeated Swede. The fight should serve to be huge in the welterweight division, particularly with the division’s title implications. Kamaru Usman has run through the division, and Chimaev could give him another big challenge.
