Chad Mendes to Make BKFC Debut in Florida on February 19

Former UFC featherweight and title challenger, Chad Mendes, has a date for his bare-knuckle boxing debut.

MMA Junkie first reported that Chad Mendes had revealed he was anticipating to make his BKFC debut on Feb.19. MMA Junkie also learned from a person with knowledge of the booking that Mendes is scheduled to face Joshuah Alvarez in a 155-pound fight at the event. The fight card is expected to go down at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood.

Chad Mendes, a loyal servant of the highly respected Team Alpha Male, fought fourteen times for the UFC between 2011 and 2018 following a time in the WEC. Mendes challenged for UFC gold three times, falling short twice to Jose Aldo for the featherweight title and losing to Conor McGregor for the interim title after stepping in on short notice.

Mendes has since retired from MMA competition following a loss to current UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski. However, the thirty-six-year-old hasn’t ruled out a return to the Octagon but believes in this moment of time, his future lies within BKFC.

His opponent on the night Joshuah is no stranger to BKFC, after competing twice under the organization previously. Alvarez made his debut in June of last year, securing a knockout victory over Paul Teague. Most recently, Alvarez suffered a decision loss to Arthur Walcott-Ceesay towards the back end of 2021.

It’s an interesting topic to visualise how Chad Mendes will do in a bare-knuckle boxing ring, but how do the fans fancy his chances? Let us know in the comments.
