Giga Chikadze Slams Alexander Volkanovski for Picking ‘Easy’ Option ‘Korean Zombie’

Giga Chikadze has accused UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski of picking the easiest option available for his next title fight.

The 33-year-old was originally set to take on former champion Max Holloway at UFC 272, in what would be the pair’s third meeting, but after ‘Blessed’ was forced out through injury, Volkanovski was left without an opponent for the March 5 event.

With a number of fighters willing to throw their name into the mix for a shot at the 145lb title, including former bantamweight and flyweight king Henry Cejudo, “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung will be given the opportunity in the main event of UFC 273 after the champion challenged him on Twitter.

The 34-year-old is 3-1 in his last four fights and a deserving candidate for the title fight, but Chikadze believes Volkanovski only wants to fight “Korean Zombie” as it is the easiest fight available.

“I know the chump is trying to have an easy task,” he said, speaking to MMA Fighting.

“The easiest one in all these guys is ‘The Korean Zombie,’ for me. That’s how I see the champ is looking to get this fight. Because he wants to go the easy way.”

The Georgian, who is one-half of this weekends’ main event against Calvin Kattar, is currently riding a nine-fight win streak, his most recent an impressive TKO victory over Edson Barboza.

A win over the number five ranked Kattar would see Chikadze really announce himself as a contender and continue his trajectory towards a future title shot against who he believes would be his easiest opponent in the top 10.

He said: “Honestly for me, I think Volkanovski is the easiest fight in the top 10. This guy cannot even reach me when we stand together. What’s he going to do? Some guys have good submissions. Some guys have good punches or techniques. What does this guy have against me? Nothing.”
