Dan Hooker will make his return to the featherweight division for the first time in over five years at UFC London.

Hooker (21-11) will be welcomed back to the featherweight division by Arnold Allen (17-1) at the O2 Arena in London on March 19. The bout was announced by the UFC and will be the first featherweight fight for Hooker since a November 2016 loss to Jason Knight.

“45 Look Alive”

After losing three of his last four bouts, Dan Hooker will make the drop back 145. Hooker went 8-4 as a lightweight in the UFC, but a recent skid has prompted the change in weight class. While Hooker has seen success in the division, defeating the likes of Jim Miller, Gilbert Burns, Paul Felder and Nasrat Haqparast, he has failed to win against some of the lightweight elite.

In his last three losses, Hooker fell to top contenders Dustin Poirier, Michael Chandler and Islam Makhachev. The move to featherweight presents an opportunity for Hooker to earn contender status with a single win.

In November, Hooker posted on social media a video of what appeared to be a test weight cut with the caption “45 look alive.” In an interview with The Mac Life, Hooker discussed a test weight cut and working with dietitians, but did not go into further details.

“I’m doing a little something, something at the moment,” Hooker said. “You’ve got to make your next move your best move. Let’s just say I’m working with the UFC and the fight dietician very closely and I’m doing a test, a little test run. And we’ll see.”

It appears that we now have our answer, but Hooker will have his work cut out for him when he steps into the cage against Arnold Allen.

A Tough Test

Allen debuted under the UFC banner in 2015 and has yet to taste defeat in the Octagon. With a ten fight win streak, Allen looks to work his way up the rankings by adding another big name to his hitlist.

Despite nearly seven years of tenure with the UFC, Allen has only appeared in the Octagon eight times. Oftentimes the lack of activity is no fault of his own. Previously booked fights against Josh Emmett and Jeremy Stephens have been canceled due to opponent injuries.

The last time we saw Allen, he defeated Sodiq Yusuff at UFC on ABC 2 in April. He won the bout via unanimous decision.

UFC London takes place on March 19 from the 02 Arena in London, England. Headlining the event is a heavyweight showdown between Tom Aspinall and Alexander Volkov. Additional bouts for the event include:

Card subject to change.
