Reports from Italy and England seem to be confirming that Aston Villa have submitted an official bid for Juventus midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur. The bid is reported to be around £16m, however Juventus aren’t yet forced to sell.
This comes after the impressive signings of Phillipe Coutinho and Lucas Digne earlier in the month and would fill a void Villa have been looking to fill since the summer. There were rumours about bids for multiple players in the #6 role during the summer window, however, none came to fruition.
Currently, Villa have only Luiz fit and able to slot in there after the unfortunate injury to Marvelous Nakamba a few weeks ago. Luiz ideally is more of a box to box midfielder so the signing would also allow the Brazilian to move up a slot.
Along with those two signings, Villa have also brought in Robin Olsen as a backup to Emi Martinez, who has signed a new deal at Villa Park himself, keeping him at the club until 2027.
All in all, it has been a very successful January window and would only be topped by the Bentancur signing and the rumoured John Mcginn new deal gets signed and sealed.
Steven Gerrard has helped create a new wave of optimism in the claret side of Birmingham, and it seems to be fully justified. Exciting times ahead for Villa fans, let us know your thoughts below!
