A huge welterweight match-up has been announced for a UFC Fight Night this April. Vicente Luque will take on Belal Muhammad in a five-round main event on April 16. ESPN’s Brett Okamoto announced the bout on Twitter. The event does not have an announced location or venue as of yet.
Top-10 Welterweight Bout to Bring Fireworks
The two first met at UFC 205 in November 2016. In that fight, it only took Luque 79 seconds to dispatch Muhammad via knockout. Since that bout, Luque and Muhammad have climbed to the top of the welterweight division and will be looking to position themselves for a shot at Kamaru Usman with a win.
Vicente Luque (21-7-1 14-3-0) is an impressive 14-3 in the UFC. Since the first fight with Muhammad, Luque has gone 10-2 and is currently on a four-fight win streak with stoppages over Michael Chiesa, Tyron Woodley, Randy Brown, and Niko Price.
Currently ranked #4 on the UFC’s welterweight rankings, Luque could find himself in prime position to challenge for UFC gold in the future with a win to follow.
Belal Muhammad (20-3-1 11-3-1 UFC) is currently one spot behind Luque in the welterweight rankings, but could very well see a title opportunity with a win in April. Muhammad is 11-3-1 overall in the UFC, 10-1 since the loss to Luque.
In his last seven bouts, Muhammad has six victories and one no-contest against Leon Edwards after an unintentional eye poke ended the bout 18 seconds into the second round. Since that no-contest, Muhammad has earned unanimous decision wins over UFC legend Damian Maia and Stephen Thompson.
The UFC event on April 19 has not been officially announced. No location or venue has been released. Additional bouts scheduled for the event include:
- Brandon Jenkins vs. Drakkar Klose- lightweight bout
- Miguel Baeza vs. Dhiego Lima- welterweight bout
- Chris Barnett vs. Martin Buday- heavyweight bout
