After a historic year in 2021, Los Angeles Angels superstar Shohei Ohtani will be on the cover for MLB The Show 22. This doesn’t come to anyone’s surprise as Ohtani had a phenomenal year at the plate and on the mound. Ohtani had such an amazing season, fans and analysts were deeming him as the next Babe Ruth. With comparisons such as that being thrown your way, you know that is some very high praise.
Ohtani’s Season to Remember
During the 2021 season, Ohtani posted a .257 batting average, 46 home runs, 100 RBIs, an on-base percentage of .372, a slugging percentage of .592, and a total of 26 stolen bases. As excellent as he was at the plate, Ohtani was just as amazing whenever he stepped up to the mound. As a pitcher in 2021, Ohtani posted a, 9-2 record, an ERA of 3.18, 130.1 innings pitched, 156 strikeouts, and 44 walks. Ohtani on every aspect of the game was playing at an elite level, there was almost nothing that he couldn’t do. The 2021 season also elected Ohtani to the All-Star game for the first time in his career, a Silver Slugger award, and recognition as the AL MVP.
Ohtani now joins the likes of, Fernando Tatis Jr., Andrew McCutchen, David Wright, Dustin Pedroia, Aaron Judge, Bryce Harper and so many other players that have graced the cover of MLB The Show for so long. Ever since The Show games have been released since 2006, there have been Superstars of the past and present to grace the cover of the game. Shohei Ohtani will now be forever immortalized amongst those great players who were enshrined on the cover of MLB The Show.
