Thomas last played for the Celtics in 2017. After the season, he was one of the players that got traded for Kyrie Irving from the Cleveland Cavaliers. The other players from the Celtics that were traded were Jae Crowder and Ante Zizic. The Celtics also gave up their first-round pick in 2018 and two second-round picks in 2020.
Thomas, a two-time All-Star who was chosen for the second team All-NBA in 2017, played for the Celtics from 2015-1017.
The 33 year old had a great run in 2017 reaching the playoffs, and was averaging 23.3 points per game and had 53 points against the Washington Wizards on May 2,1017.
The three reasons why Thomas needs to be re-signed are because of former Celtics head coach Brad Stevens, his veteran leadership, and a good publicity stunt. He currently plays in the G-League for the Grand Rapids Gold.
During a recent sit-down on the Toucher and Rich Show, Stevens admired his love for Thomas saying, “I love Isaiah. I’ve talked to Isaiah ever since he left.” Stevens also said, “He’s a special guy, he’s a special person, and I understand why everybody feels that way.” I do hope and believe that Stevens will give Thomas at least a 10-day contract at some point this season.
Thomas has experience and knowledge that he can give in the Celtics locker room. The Celtics lack experience and leadership in which Thomas can fill out that void. For Thomas, no matter how many minutes he plays, he can still impact the team’s culture and have a winning attitude also.
Solid Publicly Stunt
Getting Thomas onto the team would make more Celtics fans attend the games and boost revenue for the team. Fans would want to go just to see him wear a Celtic uniform again. What he did in the 2017 NBA playoffs was truly remarkable and for Celtics fans to see him playing again, is just the cherry on the top.
