One man’s misfortune is another’s opportunity, and Bobby Green has an opportunity here. First reported by Brett Okamoto, Beniel Dariush is out of his bout against surging lightweight Islam Makhachev, and so Green is scheduled to step in.
Bobby Green Steps in to Face Islam Makhachev
The two were originally supposed to tangle at a UFC fight night on Saturday, February 26. An unfortunate injury has left Dariush unable to fight. According to Okamoto, Beniel suffered a ‘freaky’ injury that left him with a severe ankle injury. As of right now, there’s no time frame for Beniel’s return. Enter the ‘King’
The good news here is that Bobby Green (29-12-1 14-9-0 UFC) has agreed to step in on short notice. With just ten days before the event, it appears that Green and his team have accepted the offer to headline his first UFC card, one that airs live from the UFC Apex.
This will be a huge test for Green, as Makhachev is currently ranked 4th in the lightweight division, and hasn’t lost since 2015. Bobby is coming off a stellar performance that earned him a unanimous decision victory over Nasrat Haqparast. The bout is expected to go ahead at a catchweight due to the extremely short notice, most likely 160 pounds.
