Lyoto Machida will be hunting for his first win in nearly three years at Bellator London.
Lyoto Machida (26-11, 2-3 Bellator) will enter the Bellator cage for the sixth, and possibly final time as this will be the last bout of Machida’s contract with the organization. ‘The Dragon’ entered the promotion with back-to-back wins against Rafael Carvalho and Chael Sonnen. Since then, Machida has dropped three straight going back to Sept. 2019.
Machida rose to fame in the UFC when he defeated Rashad Evans for the light heavyweight championship at UFC 98. Machida successfully defended the title against Mauricio Rua before dropping the belt to ‘Shogun’ in a rematch. During his 11 year career with the promotion, Machida earned victories against fellow MMA legends including Rich Franklin, Tito Ortiz, Ryan Bader and Dan Henderson.
Fabian Edwards (9-2, 5-2 Bellator) will return to his home country in search of a win against a mixed martial arts icon at Bellator London. Entering the promotion with four straight victories, Edwards has lost back-to-back bouts against Costello van Steenis and title contender Austin Vanderford.
Sitting in the #4 spot on Bellator’s official middleweight rankings, a win against Machida could put ‘The Assassin’ in position for a shot at Bellator gold.
Bellator London is scheduled to take place at the OVO Arena on May 13. The event will be headlined by a welterweight title fight between champion Yaroslav Amosov and challenger Michael ‘Venom’ Page. Other bouts scheduled for the event include:
- Daniel Weichel vs. Robert Whiteford
- Alfie Davis vs. Tim Wilde
- Kate Jackson vs. Elina Kallionidou
- Jason Jackson vs. Douglas Lima
- Denise Kielholtz vs. Kana Watanabe
- Simon Biyong vs. Luke Trainer
Card subject to change.
