Cat Zingano to Face Pam Sorenson at Bellator 276 in March

Cat Zingano returns to the Bellator cage in March, but it won’t be against featherweight champion Cris Cyborg as previously expected.

First reported by MMA Fighting, Cat Zingano will face Pam Sorenson at Bellator 276 on March 12. Emanating from The Family Arena in St. Charles, MO, the event will be headlined by a featherweight showdown between Adam Borics and Mads Burnell.

Cat Zingano (12-4, 2-0 Bellator) has gone 2-0 since signing with Bellator in 2020. Those wins include a unanimous decision victory over Gabrielle Holloway and a stoppage via submission over Olivia Parker. After her stoppage against Parker, the general consensus was that Cris Cyborg would be next for Zingano. Despite both fighters showing interest, Zingano will instead face Sorenson.

Zingano took to Twitter to suggest that the fight with Cyborg was being held up due to the champ’s unwillingness to participate in a pre-fight drug screening. Cyborg immediately disputed this claim and was somewhat backed up by Bellator CEO Scott Coker who suggested that Zingano was not ready to face Cyborg.

“I think timing is going to be an issue on that fight, when Cat is ready to fight her,” Coker said after Bellator 273. “We would like that fight to happen as soon as possible. That is our plan, but we have to have both fighters agree to that plan. We’re talking to the managers, Cat’s manager, find out when she’ll be ready to, No. 1, fight, and will she be willing to fight Cyborg?”

Pam Sorenson (9-4, 1-1 Bellator) is looking to bounce back from a decision loss to Arlene Blencowe in November. Sorenson is 1-1 under the Bellator banner with her lone win coming against Roberta Paim Samad in August.

Despite only have two fights in Bellator, Sorenson is currently ranked as the #7 women’s featherweight. A win over Zingano, who is ranked #2, could skyrocket Sorenson up the rankings and into a title opportunity against Cyborg.

Bellator 276 will air live on Showtime with the prelim portion of the card presented free on Bellator’s YouTube channel. Bouts currently scheduled for the event include:
