Sacramento Kings fans … put your imaginations to work … SCENE: It is the night of the 2024 NBA draft … Adam Silver saunters across the stage … oversized envelope in hand, the NBA Commissioner’s bald head glistening with anticipation … as he readies himself behind the podium to announce the 2024 NBA Draft.
One of the headliners in that class, the ‘Air’ to the throne … son of LeBron James, Bronny James.
Lost yet … I understand.
The Situation
LeBron James wants to play on the same team as his son Bronny James. His son is currently 17 years old, and eligible for the 2024 NBA draft.
Tom’s HYPOTHETICAL Proposal
The Sacramento Kings go ‘ALL IN’ on drafting the 6’3″ 190lb Bronny James, so they can entice his father LeBron James to SacTown.
The Royal Proposal:
LeBron and Bronny James come to SacTown and help the Sacramento Kings not only make the playoffs but win their first western conference championship and dare I say … NBA Championship!
Cementing LeBron James as the greatest hooper of all time! AKA the G.O.A.T.
After all, James did start his NBA career in ‘SacTown’. LeBron played his first NBA game in ‘The House That Jerry Reynolds Built’, ARCO Arena.
The References
A February 7th, 2022 Sports Illustrated article ‘Report: LeBron James Could Leave Lakers to Play With Son Bronny’ by Mike McDaniel states,
“LeBron likes L.A., he likes raising his family in L.A. and his postcareer businesses are in L.A.,” ESPN’s Brian Windhorst told Maxim‘s Chris Sheridan last week. “But he’s made it very clear that he wants to play with his son. If that situation is available outside L.A., he’ll pursue it,” Windhorst continued.”
The Contract Situation
According to the SI article, “LeBron’s contract expires with the Lakers after the 2022–23 season, which leaves a one-year gap between LeBron’s pending free agency and Bronny’s eligibility in the NBA.”
2024 Way-Too-Early NBA Mock Draft
In a brief internet search, Bronny James currently ranks in the mid-20s for 2024 NBA draft prospects. My hopes (and dreams) are that the Sacramento Kings FINALLY break their playoff-less drought by the time Bronny is draft eligible. Which would put the Kings OUT of the top 14 draft lottery selections, and thus, more likely to actually be in a position to draft Bronny.
Hypothetically, that is.
The Fan Voice
Sacramento Kings’ media and fans have been talking …. maybe even dreaming! But, that’s nothing new! Here is what some of them had to say!
Heir to the Throne … But Will He Take the Crown
Getting to the playoffs is a great thing … winning the first NBA or even western conference championship for Sacramento would be even more G.O.A.T-ish. I even talked about the topic on my latest guest appearance on the FatBoy Fadeaway podcast!
What Do YOU Think?
Is it a possibility for LeBron James to follow his son, to Sacramento, and TRULY cement his legacy as the G.O.A.T. (Greatest of All-Time) of basketball?
I want to know what the #SacramentoProud fans think!
If you want to share your opinion, stats, homemade tacos you concocted for the game … let me know on Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook!
