The Arizona Coyotes continue to make more transactions as general manager Bill Armstrong announced the team has agreed to a three-year extension with defenseman Dysin Mayo. The 25-year-old defenseman from British Columbia has come a long way since being a fifth-round pick in the 2014 NHL draft. Mayo has become a very good player for the Coyotes over the course of the next three seasons. According to sources, Mayo’s new contract is worth 2.85 million.
Dysin Mayo Career Overview
Before Dysin Mayo was drafted with the 133rd overall pick in the 2014 NHL draft he played for the WHL’s Edmonton Oil Kings. During his four seasons with the Oil Kings Mayo was very productive. In his first season with Edmonton, he played in 42 games scoring one goal and four assists. His play would only improve in the future as in his second season he played 63 games scoring seven goals and 28 assists. Mayo’s play took another leap in his third season for the Oil Kings as he played 72 games scoring 14 goals and 37 assists while serving as an assistant captain. In his final season with the Oil Kings, Mayo served as an assistant captain while turning in another productive season. He scored six goals and 37 assists in the final 71 games of his Oil Kings career.
2016-17 marked Dysin Mayo’s first season in professional hockey. He split his time between the AHL and ECHL. Mayo played 25 games for both the Tucson Roadrunners of the AHL and Rapid City Rush of the ECHL. In the AHL he scored one goal and two assists. In the ECHL he scored one goal and 15 assists. The beginning of the 2017-18 season marked the beginning of four consecutive seasons of Mayo playing in the AHL. In his first full season with the Roadrunners Mayo played 66 games scoring five goals and 11 assists. Mayo would have a decrease in point production during his second season as he had two goals and four assists in 67 games. His third season would be a bounce-back season as he had four goals and eight assists in 58 games. In his final full season in the AHL Mayo would play 35 games scoring one goal and three assists. To start the 2021-22 season Mayo would play two games in the AHL before being called up to the NHL. So far in the NHL Mayo has played 42 games scoring three goals and three assists in his career.

At a very respectable cap hit of 950k dollars per season, Mayo will be a player the Coyotes will build around.
