The Buffalo Bills are coming off a season in which they won their second of back-to-back AFC East division titles. Also, it took 13 seconds and no opportunity to go on offense to end their season in the divisional round against the Kansas City Chiefs. With every team heading to the offseason, the free agent market will be filled with low to mid-level talent that is available.
Buffalo is currently $4,758,197 over the salary cap, so a few unrestricted free agents will be cut to save money to offer those free agents an opportunity. What veteran free agent would not want to play for a Super Bowl contender like Buffalo? There are a few options for Buffalo to pursue and here are those options.
This option makes sense due to the possibility of losing Emmanuel Sanders and Isaiah Mckenzie. You would need to give Josh Allen another weapon to help his offense. What better receiver to pursue in free agency than a man who has dealt with bad quarterback play his entire career?
Allen Robinson, this past year, had two quarterbacks that were not up to par with his caliber. Robinson should receive a lot of interest from teams and maybe he should consider being a crucial part of a Super Bowl contender. Buffalo should jump on the opportunity to offer Robinson a comfortable deal to give Allen another weapon.
Rasul Douglas is an unrestricted free agent who spent last season with the Green Bay Packers, but he may want to have stability when it comes to where he will sign during free agency. While experts think Douglas will stay with Green Bay after a career season in which he caught five interceptions with two pick-sixes, there are those that think due to connections with Philadelphia and Carolina would give him an advantage with the Bills.
In five seasons, Douglas has 10 interceptions and was a quality No.1 corner for Philadelphia and Green Bay. Due to the Packers’ salary cap debacle, Douglas may be a key name that will enter the free agent market. The Bills need a temporary No.1 cornerback with uncertainty surrounding Tre’Davious White after his ACL injury last season, and Douglas fits that bill.
Even though Buffalo had the No.1 ranked defense in the NFL last season, the pass rush was a major issue. Several of their top linemen, including Mario Addison, will be entering free agency so that leaves a big gap at a key position of need for the Bills. Enter Jadeveon Clowney.
The former No.1 overall pick had nine sacks with the Cleveland Browns which was his third season with nine or more sacks in his career. Even though the Bills would need to make a few moves to get enough cap space for someone of the caliber of Clowney, Clowney would fit great in Sean McDermott’s system. In an AFC filled with above-average to elite quarterbacks, finding an edge rusher will be vital to the Bills this offseason.
