As has been the case with the Carolina Hurricanes all throughout the 2021-2022 NHL season, there are a lot of players who have stood out for stellar performances throughout the month of February. While there are a few players who could arguably make this team every single month, there is no player more deserving this month than the player who won the Hurricanes player of the month.
Player of the Month: Teuvo Teravainen
Teravainen has gotten a point in every single game in the month of February, finishing the month with 11 points in eight games, as well as being able to put up a fair few points on the power play. The winger has been playing on the top line with the Hurricanes, which he truly deserves given these performances, and has really hit a stride of good form this season and shown that he is truly an elite-level player in the NHL. If the Finnish winger can continue his stretch of good form, he is currently on pace for a 75 point season, which would be the highest number of points he has attained throughout his career.
In terms of defence, Teravainen is no slouch and frequently gets back to help defenders pick off opposing plays that would otherwise land in the back of the net. The downside of the player having so many minutes is that he is bound to be on the ice for a few goals against, which results in a reduction to his +/- rating in some of the games he plays in. Overall, he has made a solid impact throughout the year and looks to continue to do so in the remaining months of the season.
Honourable Mentions
Frederik Andersen
Andersen has been on point this season, coming back into the NHL in style, with 29 wins so far this season, and a save percentage of .930 which is the highest he has held in his career. On top of this, he has posted three shutouts so far this season and has managed to keep the net in the Hurricanes" end as empty as possible with over 1000 saves, which has helped them get to be one of the top teams in the league. If Andersen keeps up his amazing save percentage, he is sure to reclaim a spot as the Hurricanes Player of the Month, much like he earned in December of 2021.
Jaccob Slavin
Slavin has consistently been a solid player for the Hurricanes organization and has managed another solid month, with no negative ratings in terms of +/- throughout the month of February. While this is the player"s first time making the list for player of the month, he was just a narrow miss each month and is looking more and more deserving of the title of the Hurricanes Player of the Month before the season ends. Overall, Slavin is a defensive talisman who has been a solid consistent factor in the Hurricanes" leadership. Slavin is most definitely a solid player, who can work well at either end of the ice, which makes him a threat on both the powerplay and penalty kill for the team.
