Five Unknown Facts – Pedri

Pedri, who is only 18 years old, stunned Europe by outperforming all expectations in his first season at FC Barcelona… The Tenerife native was named EURO 2020’s Best Young Player.

Andres Iniesta, a Barcelona legend and LaLiga icon, was his childhood hero. The youngster has stated on numerous occasions that the all-time great midfielder was his inspiration as a young footballer and the reason he grew up a Barça fan. His family was already fans of Barcelona; his grandfather founded the Tenerife-Tegueste Barcelona supporters club.

He is the youngest player to ever score for his first professional club, UD Las Palmas. At the age of 16 years, 9 months, and 23 days, his goal against R. Sporting in LaLiga SmartBank on September 19th, 2019 etched his name in the club’s history books. His debut season was so impressive that he only played for the UD Las Palmas senior team for one season before being signed by FC Barcelona.

Even though he was born in Tenerife, scouts from the island’s giant CD Tenerife initially thought he was too small and skinny to excel at the top level, so he eventually played for UD Las Palmas, the Canary Islands’ historical rival. When he signed for UD Las Palmas in 2018, he also had a trial at Real Madrid at the age of 15.

He’s already made an impression on LaLiga Santander. Pedri, who is only 18 years and 42 days old, is the youngest player in the history of Spain’s top flight to score a goal and provide an assist in the same game (vs Athletic Club at San Mames).
