The Boston Red Sox made the AL East division a lot more interesting. Boston made a big-time move on March 20th, as they went out and signed All-Star shortstop, Trevor Story. The deal is for six years and $140 million. Boston is able to snag one of the best players on the lineup and continue to bolster their already impressive lineup. Story had a solid season in 2021 with the Colorado Rockies. During that season he posted, a .251 batting average, 24 home runs, 75 RBIs. In addition, he stole 20 bases, had an on-base percentage of .329, a slugging percentage of .471, an OPS of .801, and a WAR of 4.2. In addition, Story is a two-time All-Star and a two-time Silver Slugger award recipient.

Impact on AL East

What does this mean for Boston? They just made the race in the AL East a whole lot more interesting. With the Yankees improving their offense, by acquiring Josh Donaldson and Isiah Kiner-Falefa, the Rays are already being a dominant force in the division with great pieces such as Wander Franco, Brandon Lowe, and other great pieces in the lineup, with the addition of their great bullpen and rotation, and on top of that Blue Jays going insane this offseason with the acquisitions of Kevin Gausman, Yusei Kikuchi, Matt Chapman, and in addition to that, having Vladamir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette.

How Story Fits into the Red Sox Lineup

Now, with that being said, it is unknown if Trevor Story will even play shortstop, with the Red Sox already having Xander Bogaerts at shortstop. It seems as though Story will likely play at second base for the Red Sox, which isn’t bad at all. The Boston infield is not something that should be messed with. With the Red Sox already having Rafael Devers, Xander Bogaerts in their starting lineup with the addition of Trevor Story, this Boston team is sure to be looking to capture the AL East crown this season.
