Nate Schnarr was the piece in this trade was part of that Taylor Hall trade tree from the Arizona Coyotes to New Jersey where the branches keep extending. Expectations for Andrew Hammond throughout the remaining 2021-22 season games are allowing Andrew to step in as many games as any goaltender in New Jersey to have some fresh bodies in the net.
Goaltending
Per Amanda Stein via Twitter putting out “I am told the plan right now for #NJDevils is to keep Nico Daws, Andrew Hammond, and Jon Gillies on the roster. For the time being the club will carry three goaltenders."
It is a strategy that makes a lot more sense due to the fact if Coach Lindy Ruff wants to rest Nico Daws and not give him the goalie bug where goalies get overworked and do not perform to their highest potential via their careers.
Nico Daws has been starting a plethora in games and has been pulled a few times with a defense that looked lost versus Vancouver and Calgary in 6-3 losses. Andrew Hammond will be stepping in and allowing Jon Gillies to ride the pine watching a veteran netminder in the net. Hammond has played in big markets like Ottawa and Montreal versus other prime-time opponents. There is a lot of mentoring for a guy like Nico Daws being able to learn firsthand at the NHL level.
