On a night of incredible fights at ONE X there was one fight that captured the attention of the fans. This fight was the culmination of a 14-year blood feud between Yoshihiro Akiyama and Shinya Aoki.

Prior to the fight both of the Japanese legends unleashed pent-up aggression and hatred towards one another inside the circle in their lightweight bout at ONE X, ONE Championship’s 10-year anniversary show, at Singapore Indoor Stadium.

Aoki and Akiyama’s hostilities towards each other was a well known factor leading up to the fight and it didn’t disappoint.

Yoshihiro “Sexyama” Akiyama vs Shinya Aoki

South Korean-Japanese mixed martial arts icon Yoshihiro “Sexyama” Akiyama put forth a vintage performance in perhaps the most personal fight of the event, Akiyama successfully defeated #3-ranked lightweight contender and former ONE Lightweight World Champion Shinya Aoki winning via technical knockout.

The first round went the way of Aoki, who started by closing the distance and taking Akiyama’s back. He threatened with his signature face crank for most of the opening five minutes, but Akiyama was able to survive during some excruciating looking moments, that culminated with boos from the crowd as Aoki appeared to caught Akiyama on the back of the head on a couple of occasions.

In the second round, the man of the hour “Sexyama” landed a plethora of shots and pummeled Aoki into the Circle Wall. The Singapore crowd erupted as the referee called a halt to the contest as Aoki was confirmed to be unable to intelligently defend himself from the onslaught.

The emotion was there for all to see as Akiyama collapsed in a heap on the matt as relief and joy covered his face, leading to the fan favourite the one and only Sexyama to celebrate with his team and crowd bringing to an end the 15-year personal war between two of Japan’s most successful martial artists.
