Coming into this season, the Philadelphia Phillies knew their guy at the shortstop position, for the time being, would be Didi Gregorious. However, manager Joe Girardi didn’t rule out the possibility of prospect, Bryson Stott taking some time at the shortstop position. Stott, is known as one of the best prospects in the Phillies farm system, and it appears he has a future with the Phillies once Didi is gone.
As of right now, Stott has a good chance to be the future shortstop in Philadelphia. Since Didi is under contract for this upcoming season, it seems as though Stott has a good chance of taking the full-time position for the upcoming years.
Philadelphia Takes The Chance On Stott
Bryson Stott was selected with the 14th overall pick, in the first round, of the 2019 MLB Draft. This was a draft that was headlined by prospects such as Adley Rutchsman and Bobby Witt jr. This was a draft headlined by the future talent that could have an almost immediate impact on their respective franchises. This idea that Stott, who was only drafted a few years ago, can already make an immediate impact on a Phillies lineup is quite impressive, to say the least. He has been in the Phillies system and is already their best prospect, it really can speak volumes about the potential success Stott can have in the major leagues.
Stott’s Road To The Show
During his time in the minor leagues, Stott played very well. During his time in AA Reading, he posted a batting average of, .301, 10 home runs, 36 RBIs, 35 walks, and 78 strikeouts in a span of 80 games. That is a very good start line in such a short time. He averaged less than a strikeout per game and had a good ability to get on base when he needed to. When he went to AAA Lehigh Valley, his numbers were still excellent. During that campaign, he had a .303 batting average, 1 home run, 3 RBIs, an on-base percentage of, .439, with 8 walks and 8 strikeouts. Mind you, he did this in a span of 10 games played. Just like he did in AA, he had the ability to get on base whenever he needed to. He hit for a good average and had the addition of having a high on-base percentage as well.
The Phillies are now keeping a close eye on Stott during the 2022 Spring Training, and he is outperforming. The Phillies didn’t expect this success, now granted it is only Spring Training, however, even in Spring Training, it is important to keep a close eye on how well Stott is performing. During this Spring Training, as of March 29, Stott has a batting average of, .533, 3 RBIs, 5 walks, and only 4 strikeouts. Stott, who has only had 15 at-bats this spring, has shown a lot of potential for the Phillies.
If Bryson Stott can play this well in the major leagues, it would add another good player to an already impressive Phillies lineup.
