Former UFC Title Contender Marlon Moraes Retires from MMA

It’s been a tough tough few years for top contender Marlon Moraes.

He has suffered losses to Cory Sandhagen, Rob Font, Merab Dvallishvilli and most recently, Song Yadong. Despite having success in some of these outings, his last loss was a brutal knockout. As the announcement of Yadong’s victory was made, Moraes could be seen taking his gloves off and leaving them in the cage.

A Quick Preview of “The Magicians” career

Moraes has contended for one UFC championship and is a former World Series of Fighting champion. In his outing against Henry Cejudo, he found major success with leg kicks, but ultimately gassed out and suffered a TKO loss. This performance left many fans confident in his future as he was extremely close to winning via stoppage.

As time went on and the division entered a post “Triple C” era, we would see some new champions reign, including current champion Aljamain Sterling who is a familiar foe to Moraes. “The Magician” holds a KO win over Sterling by way of a devastating knee.

This left fans wondering, especially after early success against Devallishvilli, could Moraes reach his way back up to the top? It really seemed that he only needed to work on his gas tank and all would be good, but Yadong would prove that power is too much for a chin that has been hit consistently.

Ultimately, this KO loss in his last outing has shown that the Brazilian will not be returning to the Octagon, He will surely be missed by fans and fighters alike.

What are your thoughts on Marlon Moraes’ career and his retirement?
