Martyn Ford Eyes MMA Debut with KSW

Martyn Ford had plans to make his boxing debut earlier this year, as he was set to face long time rival Iranian Hulk.

The bout was scheduled to take place in London, England, but was ultimately scrapped just weeks before the fight was to take place. Although no official reason for the cancelation was ever confirmed by the promotion Boxstar, it appeared Ford was ready to go.

While the fight with Sajad Gharibi is no longer expected to take place, Martyn has turned his attention to an MMA debut later this year. The ‘World’s Scariest Man’ was expected to enter the cage with the Polish promotion KSW, when he signed with them in 2018. Unfortunately for Ford and his fans, the pandemic put a kibosh on the hope of him fighting any time soon.

In a recent interview, Ford revealed his plans to begin an MMA run. “One hundred percent I am planning on getting involved in MMA,” Ford told Mirror Fighting. “It just needs to be the right person and right time, my feelers have been put out there to try and get this set up as soon as possible. I understand the frustration from people about not yet seeing me fight. I am still training, only thing I am not doing is active sparring.”

“I need to do it for my own mental state to be honest” says Martyn. “Anyone that has trained at a good level in any sport will understand the frustration I am going through at the moment.”

Potential Opponents in the Mix

Two names have surfaced as potential opponents for the multi-talented British star. One of those being Polish strongman, turned mixed martial artist Mariusz Pudzianowski (16-7-1NC). Although Pudzianowski’s name consistently attaches itself to Ford, the experience factor is a massive obstacle. Even with Martyn’s size advantage, it’s not a fight many would approve of.

A more logical name that’s been mentioned several times is 33 year old Icelandic strongman Hathor Bjornsson. ‘The Mountain’ had been tied to a possible boxing match against Ford, after Bjornsson won his debut scrap over Eddie Hall. The six round exhibition boxing bout ended with ‘Thor’ getting the nod via decision. Bjornsson has little to no MMA experience, so a match up against Martyn would probably be a better fit for both to debut in the world’s most grueling sport.
