With the 2022 NFL season approaching, storylines have started to emerge. From Roger Goodell testifying before Congress to contract questions for Kyler Murray and Lamar Jackson. Meanwhile, teams have had time to prepare for their opponents. While the schedule gods were nice to teams like the Giants and Eagles, some NFL schedules are significantly harder. From a tough division to a tough conference, some teams did not have lady luck on their side. With the season almost upon us, it’s time to look at which teams have tough NFL schedules for the 2022 season.
The Potential to be Barbecued
The first team with a tough NFL schedule has been a frequent contender over the past five years, the Kansas City Chiefs. After coming up short in the playoffs last year, the Chiefs watched superstar wide receiver Tyreek Hill force a trade to Miami.
Meanwhile, all of their AFC West divisional rivals added premier pass rushing talent. The Chargers paired former Defensive Player of the Year Khalil Mack with superstar Joey Bosa. The Raiders paired the active player with the second most career sacks, Chandler Jones, to emerging star Maxx Crosby. And finally, the Broncos partnered former Cowboys’ star Randy Gregory with the talented Bradley Chubb.
Even more concerning for Kansas City, Denver also added potential hall of famer Russell Wilson. Add in tough matchups with 2021 playoff teams including the Bills, the Niners, the Chargers and both Super Bowl teams (Bengals and Rams) and the Chiefs are left with one tough NFL schedule. Despite the adversity, they are still a popular pick for most betting websites such as Coral betting app.
Super Bowl Blues
One of the hardest things to do in sports is to repeat as a champion. From talented players leaving to lower draft picks, the defending champs always have a tough way back to the Super Bowl. Another difficult challenge, a tough schedule that awaits the Los Angeles Rams.
The Rams play in a difficult division with two of their rivals, the Cardinals and 49ers, having made the playoffs last season. Add in a difficult matchup against the Bills to kick off the season, games against the previously mentioned AFC West, Dallas, Tampa and Green Bay leads to another tough NFL schedule.
Dark Days in Gotham
The final team with a very tough NFL schedule for the 2022 season led the league in first round picks this last year, the New York Jets. The Jets have the pleasure of kicking off the season with 4 straight games against the AFC North, a division that saw all teams make the playoffs over the last 2 years.
Add in division games against a difficult AFC East, which saw every other team win at least 9 games a year ago. Finally, games against a challenging NFC north and Denver leave Zach Wilson and the Jets with our final tough NFL schedule for the 2022 season.
However, the Jets have a bit of an easy ending with the Jaguars, Seahawks, Bears and Lions all on the schedule for the second-half of the season.
