I feel like the Milwaukee Brewers’ City Connect uniforms were revealed without anyone noticing. I could be wrong, but it just does not seem like images made their way around Twitter the same way that other teams’ reveals did, particularly the Rockies. That is a shame, because the Milwaukee Brewers city connect uniforms are quite delicious to the eye.
The following criteria is used to evaluate the Milwaukee Brewers City Connect Uniforms:
1. Does it actually connect to the city, as the name implies?
2. Does it look like it belongs to the team they represent?
3. Does it look like it fits the mission of exotic, but not obnoxious?
The Brewers brand is already quite "City Connect-ish" to begin with. Not only does the name refer to the beer making industry, but grains of wheat can be seen on both the current secondary logo, and the former primary logo. Not to mention, the navy blue alternates use a font strikingly similar to Milwaukee Tools. Ultimately, the Brewers face a unique challenge: how does a uniform further represent a city more than they already do?
The answer: the fans.
I love how the phrase Brew Crew appears on the uniform as an homage to the common nickname. The font itself is great too, almost looking like the title on a comic book cover. The fans are further symbolized with the grill sleeve patch, recognizing the festive parking lot tailgating that Brewers fans are known for. I have not been to Milwaukee, but everyone who I have ever met who has been there told me the same thing: you have to tailgate if you go.
The hat sticks out the most to me. Not only does it read an abbreviation for the city, but also manipulates the zip code in between the letters. What i most like about the hat, is how the logo is horizontal. Hat logos tend to be able to fit either centered, or taller than they are wide. Going broad and horizontal is a welcome step out of the norm.
The uniform is undoubtedly a Brewers uniform, showing clear homage to the light blue jersey one would imagine Robin Yount wearing. Its no wonder either, because these colors are really difficult to make look bad. The uniform in whole has a kid-friendly Minor League vibe to them, which is funny for a team themed around alcohol. While I cannot say these are the most adventurous uniforms of the City Connect collection, they are quite safe in their design. Above all, they are certainly full of heart and soul.
