Jan Blachowicz, who had earlier bragged about the UFC’s acknowledgment of his title shot ambitions, is currently disappointed at the current Champion, Jiri Prochazka after the Czech indicated his interest in a rematch with Glover Teixeira in a social media post.
Prochazka received a hero’s welcome in his hometown after becoming the first-ever UFC champion from Czech Republic when he secured a win with the rear-naked choke in the dying minutes of his title fight against Glover Teixeira. Teixeira who became the second oldest UFC champion after defeating Jan Blachowicz last year was quick to ask for a rematch following his unsuccessful title defense against Jiri Prochazka.
Shortly after Teixeira’s request, former champion Jan Blachowicz who had earlier defeated Aleksandar Rakic with a third round TKO to become the No.1 title contender was quick to call out the Champion after his title win.
Blachowicz in another interview also insisted the UFC would have no issues scheduling him as the next to face the Czech Champion, a statement which left Prochazka indifferent over his next ambitions while also citing Blachowicz as a bigger challenge than Teixeira.
“I said I have to make a decision about next fight. And I’m thinking about to give offer for Glover for a rematch or to challenge the Jan. Because the Jan is, for me, bigger challenge. But I think Glover, he made a great performance in that fight. And I have to say to him, ‘Huge respect for that.’ So, we will see. – Prochazka said in an interview with Schmo.
However, in a recent post, Prochazka was quick to dismiss the claims of facing Blachowicz and announced his decision to square up against Glover Teixeira in a title rematch much to the annoyance of the former Polish champion.
“Jan is for me the biggest challenge” – your words. Respect you Champ, but the samurai code was not upheld.– Blachowicz tweeted.
Prochazka who was behind in their heavy heated first fight before eventually securing a finish by submission indicated his previous lackluster performance a reason for the glover callout in a bid to retain the title with a domineering perfomance. He was also quick to respond to Blachowicz claims stating his choice as more challenging and legacy driven.
“With Glover, it’s a matter of honor and duty to show pure Fight. This is more than a challenge.” – Jiri replied.
Uncertainty still remains as to whom Jiri Prochazka faces in his title defense, but with the talent at the top of the light heavyweight division a matchup with either Jan Blachowicz or Glover Teixeira would be much to the delight of the fans.
