It seems ‘Mystic Mac’ Conor McGregor has had a revelation regarding UFC 277’s main event between Amanda Nunes and Julianna Pena and his pair of bouts with Nate Diaz.

McGregor compared his battles with Diaz to the Nunes vs. Pena pair of bouts via Twitter Voice. “It’s mad to me the similarity of last night’s ladies’ Bantamweight world title fight rematch to mine and Diaz, the McGregor-Diaz fights,” McGregor noted.

Conor McGregor further explained saying, “Fight number one, the highly touted, the G.O.A.T of the sport, me and Amanda Nunes. Sheer toughness, willingness to fight, and caught off guard, [Nunes and McGregor] eats a couple of shots, gives a couple of shots, then eats a couple of shots, the tide turns and then gets choked.”

Both of the initial fights were huge upset submission wins for both Pena and Diaz while in their respected rematches McGregor and Nunes were victorious by decision. McGregor explained how the second fights were similar as well. “Now the return, the rematch, confidence on the other side, tenacity, toughness, all of that still there [for Pena and Diaz]. More focused work on Nunes and my side.”

McGregor then segued “Reason I’m saying this originally, now I’m neither ‘side’, I’m a huge fan of both of those women’ Amanda Nunes and Julianna Pena and anyone who steps inside that f***ing octagon and makes that walk”

McGregor then followed up by explaining all four bouts’ similarities. “At the end of the original bout ‘I’m not surprised motherf***ers,’ [Diaz’s famous words after upsetting McGregor in the first bout] and then again, Julianna says it [after defeating Nunes]. Then the fight goes the exact same way in the second fight. [Nunes and McGregor] dropped them multiple times, just better prepared but then the toughness, you’re [Diaz] still there, you’re [Pena] still in Amanda’s face, still in my face.”

Conor McGregor followed up by saying, “Some fights, they’re iconic mixed martial arts bouts that we’re all lucky to witness. It’s mad that double champ-double champ [Nunes and McGregor both achieved double champ status], ‘I’m not surprised’-‘I’m not surprised’ [Pena and Diaz’s words after their upset wins]”

How Conor McGregor vs. Nate Diaz Stacks Up Next to Amanda Nunes vs. Julianna Pena

  • McGregor/Nunes were heavy favorites in the initial bout
  • McGregor/Nunes won the first round of the first bout
  • Diaz/Pena won via submission [rear-naked choke] in the second round of the first bout
  • Pena quoted the same phrase-‘I’m not surprised motherf***ers’ made famous by Diaz, after their respected upset victories
  • Both rematches were in favor of McGregor/Nunes with both scoring multiple knockdowns in the early rounds
  • Both rematches went the distance with McGregor and Nunes winning by decision
  • McGregor was the first male UFC double-champ and Nunes was the first female UFC double-champ

With a few of the similarities listed, what do you think? Do you believe Conor McGregor’s words have weight to them or none at all? Be sure to let us know in the comments!
