Conor McGregor to Star in ‘Road House’ Remake

Conor McGregor is set to take on Hollywood as he joins established movie star Jake Gyllenhaal (Southpaw, Donnie Darko, Zodiac, Prisoners, End of Watch, etc.) in Amazon Prime Video’s remake of ‘Road House’.

The original was released in 1989, starring Patrick Swayze, Kelly Lynch, Sam Elliott, and Ben Gazzara. The original film’s synopsis reads, “The Double Deuce is the meanest, loudest and rowdiest bar south of the Mason-Dixon Line, and Dalton (Swayze) has been hired to clean it up. He might not look like much, but the Ph.D.-educated bouncer proves he’s more than capable-busting the heads of troublemakers and turning the roadhouse into a jumping hot spot. But Dalton’s romance with the gorgeous Dr. Clay (Lynch) puts him on the bad side of cutthroat local big shot-Brad Wesley (Gazzara).’

Details on The Remake

Not much is known about the reimaging of ‘Road House’ other than the new take follows Gyllenhaal’s character, a former UFC fighter and per an official synopsis, “takes a job as a bouncer at a rough-and-tumble roadhouse in the Florida Keys but soon discovers that not everything is what it seems in this tropical paradise.”

The remake will be directed by Doug Liman (“Mr. and Mrs. Smith,” “Edge of Tomorrow,” “The Bourne Identity”) and written by Anthony Bagarozzi and Charles Mondry. The original producer Joel Silver is returning for the remake for his company, Silver Pictures. The film is set to enter production this month.

‘Notorious’ Conor McGregor In Hollywood

No details are currently known on what character Conor McGregor will be portraying. Sources did however make it clear that the former double-champion will be playing an original character and not himself in the production.

It has been reported by Deadline insiders that Conor McGregor first watched the original after finding out that there was interest for him to join the remake. McGregor reportedly enjoyed the film and was game to meet to see how he would play a part in the new film. Sources added that after a meeting with Silver Pictures, McGregor was all in and loved the idea of where the new story was headed compared to the original.

Conor McGregor’s spokesperson, Karen J. Kessler had this to say on the news: “Conor McGregor is very excited to expand his storied career to Hollywood and join with Jake Gyllenhaal in this reimagining of “Road House”, a beloved classic. While fighting remains his top focus, this is the beginning of another successful venture in the McGregor empire. He is eager to get started filming.” Some of McGregor’s other business ventures include launching his liquor brand ‘Proper No. 12’ Irish Whiskey. Earlier this year Proximity Spirits acquired the majority stake in a $600 million deal. McGregor also appeared in the popular game series Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare in 2016.

Conor McGregor (22-6 MMA, 10-4 UFC) is currently on a two-fight losing skid, having lost his last two fights by knockout to Dustin Poirier. Most recently, McGregor was last seen in the Octagon at UFC 264 in July of 2021, losing by TKO due to a leg injury that resulted in McGregor breaking his left fibula and tibia and requiring surgery. ‘Notorious’ has been ramping up training as of late, aiming towards a UFC return.
