UFC San Diego: Loopy Seeking Her Ascension

On August 13th number 13 in the 115-pound division, Angela Hill looks to stop the ascension of another contender, in Mexican-born Loopy Godinez. Straight out of Aguascalientes, Loopy did not turn heads right away, dropping her UFC debut. Since then she has gone 3-1, getting one submission victory, but winning with complete domination in her two most recent fights.

Wrestling has been the name of the game for the Mexican, shooting an average of 5 takedowns a fight and landing just under half of those shots. If Loopy can get the fight to the ground there is a good chance she’ll keep them there. In her last fight, landing 8 of 8 and racking up 13 minutes of control time, this is one prospect that is starting to get the ball rolling. At 28 years of age, now is the time.

UFC San Diego: Overkill is Unwavering

Angela Hill has proven herself to be a real mainstay of 115 pounds. Putting on 20 fights since 2014, she is one of the most active fighters around. Going on a great run in 2019 and midway through 2020, things were looking up for the Maryland fighter. Things have not been great recently, going 1-5 in her last 6, it seems that her high volume game has failed to get going and she is getting out husted in the scorecards.

While Jandrioba was able to control her on the fence and ground, contenders like Tecia Torres and Amanda Lemos were beating her in the striking. The UFC has not given her any softballs at this stage in her career with another rising contender. But this may play into Hill’s hands, considering it’s no secret of Loopy’s game plan, Overkill may be looking to make a statement to the Fans.

Godinez Vs. Hill promises  to Be a Dog fight

While Mexico is not known for their wrestling, the whole Godinez clan has a legitimate wrestling pedigree that hopes to take them far. While some MMA fans may view this as a done deal, this is a real test considering some of the stumbles Loopy has faced in the past. Emulating the performance that Luana Carolina put on in her victory over Godinez is probably what Overkill will be looking to do, negating the control time with damage.

While some fighters are given layups to climb the rankings, this promises to be a real dogfight assuming Hill shows up with the will to win and conquer early adversity. In other words, Hill could give up the first rounds and go all out in the next two rounds. Hill could also get outclassed in the grappling like how Loopy won her last two fights. This is certainly a fight worth looking out for.
