Even though the 12-week stretch of fights that the UFC had put on has finally come to an end, it does not mean there are no great MMA shows and fights to talk about! ONE Championship, a combat sports promotion known for its vast reach in the Southeast Asian market, struck a deal with Amazon Prime to bring shows to the platform in primetime slots for North American viewers. Coming soon will be a rematch of Ok Rae yoon and Christian Lee while Nong-O Gaiyanghadao takes on Liam Harrison.

In hopes to bring more eyes to the sport and promotion, they have jammed packed an exciting weekend of fights headlined by Adriano Moraes as he defends his flyweight title in a rematch against long-time former UFC flyweight champion Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson, where Moraes shocked the world when he KO’d Johnson in their first bout. Besides this bout, there is plenty of great action between Friday and Saturday as ONE Championship hopes to cap off their summer with a bang.

Ok Rae Yoon vs. Christian Lee 2

Headlining the Friday morning event is the lightweight title in a rematch from September of 2021. The current champ Ok Rae Yoon stunned all when he defeated Lee to win the title via unanimous decision, capping off three victories in 2021 to become ONE’s fighter of the year. On this run to the title he acquired four straight wins and with his title victory, currently stands at five altogether. Beating the likes of Eddie Alvarez and former featherweight champion Marat Gafurov, Yoon became known as the “Legend Killer”. But to become the champion he had to defeat the young prodigy Lee, who was only 23 years old when he won the lightweight strap.

The former champion Christian Lee has been training his whole life to become an MMA champion. With all of his pro bouts within the ONE Championship promotion, he climbed the ranks of two divisions, featherweight, and lightweight, and contended for both titles, where he ultimately defeated Japanese MMA legend Shinya Aoki for his first ever title. The eldest son of the famed Lee family (older sister Angela Lee is the Atomweight champion, younger sister Victoria is undefeated in her first three bouts), all Christian knows is fighting and winning, and he is looking to become a two-time lightweight champion when all is said and down by the end of the weekend.

Both men are extremely skilled and very high-IQ fighters, so expect this rematch to be even closer than their original matchup. With 14 of his 15 wins via stoppage, Lee can finish a fight wherever it goes, attempting to secure multiple submissions over Yoon in their first bout. Being one of the smartest fighters that Lee has ever been up against, Yoon was able to easily put himself out of danger and escape each of those submissions work his Muay Thai from the outside to secure the decision and win the title. In what many thought was a controversial decision, especially Lee who cursed out the judges in his post-fight interview. This fight is going to be a great way to cap off the first day of the doubleheader to see if it was indeed a fluke or a foregone conclusion.

Nong-O Gaiyanghadao vs. Liam Harrison

In the co-main event of the second card of the event, and first ever card on Amazon Prime, a Muay Thai title fight will go down, but there’s a catch. The bout will not be fought with the traditional 10 oz. Muay Thai boxing gloves that many would expect but with 4 oz. MMA gloves instead! Two Muay Thai vets will go head to head with a combined fight experience of 434 fights. Current ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai Champion Nong-O Gaiyanghadao is currently undefeated since joining ONE Championship and has successfully defended his title five times since winning it in 2019. With three straight KO victories, it is looking as if Gaiyanghadao has finally found his stride and has been putting the smaller gloves to good use.

This opponent, “Hitman” Harrison, earned this title shot after one of the most exciting fights you will ever see as he was dropped twice in a matter of moments and was able to come back to score three consecutive knockdowns in the same round to win via TKO. Harrison, known for his explosion, intensity, and power, “Hitman” has the ability to turn a fight around with one shot as he showed in his last bout. This will surely be a back and forth striking collision as these two men do not look to win the fight via decision but claim the title by putting their opponent out. This has the potential to steal the show and be a great warm-up to the show’s conclusion.

Marcus “Buchecha” Almeida vs. Kirill Grishenko

Better known as “Buchecha” in the combat sports community, Marcus Almeida is one of the greatest Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioners to ever grace a mat. Numerous-time world champion in both GI and NoGi, retiring from BJJ in 2019 and making the full-time switch to MMA, Almeida is now 3-0 in his pro career with all wins being under the ONE banner.

With all of his wins so far coming via stoppage, “Buchecha” is slowly climbing the rankings of the heavyweight division as he sets his sights on an MMA championship before his MMA career is over. If there is ever a chance to watch a true master of a craft perform, I recommend it. As he works on enhancing his striking skills and flowing all forms of fighting together, heavy use of his BJJ skills is what carries Almeida at the moment. Watch as he attempts to dominate his opponent on the ground this weekend and seamlessly flow from position to position and win via stoppage.
