Since joining from Tottenham in 2012, Luka “Godric” has cemented his legacy as one of the greatest midfielders of his generation and a Real Madrid legend. At 37, the man is showing no signs of slowing down. A strong pillar of one of the greatest midfield trios of all time, Luka Modric has done it all. The results speak for themself. Five champions leagues winners medals, three Liga titles, Four club world cup titles, four UEFA super cup titles, one Copa del ray, UEFA best player of the year, FIFA best player of the year and a Ballon D’or and sheer unique brilliance across board. Luka has done it all. In this brief piece, I attempt to celebrate the sheer brilliance of a Man who has been so instrumental to the success of this club in the past ten years. Here are Luka Modric’s greatest moments as a Real Madrid Legend.

Luka Modric’s Greatest Moments 5) His clean tackle on Lionel Messi against PSG

Quick, Deft and brilliant. One ballon D’or winner to another. Modric brilliantly took the ball off Messi’s feet in a fashion that not even Messi could complain about. The fact that it was Lionel Messi who tormented Real Madrid for quite a while during his time at Barcelona made that tackle even better. The frustrated look on his face as he walked away in shame was elite. That tackle summed up Leo’s frustration in the two-legged encounter where he missed a penalty and watched his side squander a two-goal advantage in less than twenty minutes. On this occasion, the superior number ten, the Real Madrid legend, won.

Luka Modric’s Greatest Moments 4) His mockery of Gerrad pique after EL Classico.

If there is anything, Gerrad Pique is good at asides from defending (which is arguable), it is Moaning. I dare say Pique is better at Moaning than even playing football. He moans all the time. Everyone is Fed up, and on this occasion, Lukita did not hesitate to show his displeasure at Pique’s constant media rant. As usual, Pique was not ready to accept the superiority of Real Madrid and was expressing his displeasure because the referees added just four minutes. This quick and brilliant shade by the Real Madrid legend to Pique while leaving the pitch is comedic brilliance at its best.

Luka Modric’s Greatest Moments 3) His goal against Barcelona in the 2020/2021 El Classico at the Nou Camp

Off the bench and on with the brilliance. The Real Madrid legend left Barcelona’s goalkeeper Neto with a moment he will never forget in his life. The way he embarrassed the goalkeeper and finished with the outside of his boot was ridiculous. With Madrid 2-1 up, Barcelona would not have envisaged such a closing to the game. Luka hit the nail on the coffin and did most distinctively. This is one of my favourite Luka Modric goals. It envelopes everything about the man: class and brilliance.

Luka Modric’s Greatest Moments 2) His assist to Rodrygo in the Champions League Quarterfinals against Chelsea

How Real squandered a three-one advantage remains a mystery to me. That game should have been said and done the minute the referee slowed the whistle to signal the end of the first leg. But it was not to be. Chelsea was back, and they were on top. They were ruthlessly picking us apart and punishing us accordingly. This writer concluded that we weren’t going past that Chelsea side. I was so sure. I had no confidence whatsoever. They were far better than us, so superior. I didn’t even see us scoring a goal. What Madrid needed to win that game was magic. And that was what Luka Modric brought, MAGIC. We needed one goal to save our lives and send the game to extra time. Luka Modric received the pass from Marcelo and had an easy option to send Vinicius JR through on goal. But Luka had other ideas. And did the unbelievable. With the outside of his right boot, Luka sent it over the Chelsea defence and set it on a platter for Rodrygo to send home and rescue the game. It was brilliant. Brilliant.

Luka Modric’s Greatest Moments 1) His assist for Sergio Ramos in the 2014 champions league final

Modric takes its a header from Sergio Ramos……..
It looked like that game was done. Atletico Madrid, well known for their defensive shape and organization, were leading one nil in the final, and there were literally no minutes left of the game. Just clear the last corner, and that was it. Well, it is never over until Luka says it is over. All the pressure in the world was on him at that point, but it never got to him. Modric delivered a perfectly weighted cross for Sergio Ramos to head home and send the game to extra time. Real Madrid went on to win the competition four goals to one and lift the champions league trophy for the tenth time. Cristiano Ronaldo and Angel Di Maria took all the plaudits after the game. But Luka Modric was brilliant in that game. Xabi Alonso was suspended and could not feature in that game, so Modric was at the fore of a midfield trio that featured Angel Di Maria, a winger, and a not fully fit Sami Khedira. And he bossed it. Single-handedly dominating the midfield. His industry and Ball retention were the foundations that Real Madrid built on as they secured LA DECIMA. And that game was one of the games that began his journey to Football greatness.
