After a hiatus for the December holiday, one of the world’s top combat sports promotions is on Friday night. Singapore-based ONE Championship returns to live action with ONE on Prime Video 6 from Bangkok Thailand.
However, the promotion begins its 2023 schedule of events with heavy hearts. ONE on Prime Video 6 and the ONE on Prime Video 6 main event serves as the promotion’s first show since the death of Victoria Lee.
The 18-year-old had been competing in ONE’s atomweight division (115 lbs.) and was undefeated at 3-0. Lee passed away on Dec. 26, with news of her death being confirmed last Saturday on Instagram.
Our condolences are with the Lee family during this time.
Notes For Amazon Prime Video Subscribers Ahead of ONE on Prime Video 6 Main Event
Live coverage begins Friday at 8 pm ET/ 5 pm PT on Amazon Prime Video with the main card. Atypical of other ONE on Prime Video events that have taken place, lead card action will occur after the main card.
Amazon Prime Video subscribers should be advised that ONE on Prime Video 6 is available to viewers who subscribe to the service in the United States and Canada only. This event will be offered as a pay-per-view under the alternate title “ONE Fight Night 6” in foreign markets.
All told, ONE on Prime Video 6 will feature eight total bouts. For the first time since ONE Championship began streaming events on Amazon Prime Video late last summer, an MMA fight will not be at the top of the card.
Featherweight Kickboxing World Championship Awarded in ONE on Prime Video 6 Main Event
This week, kickboxing will take center stage in the ONE on Prime Video 6 main event. Incumbent ONE Featherweight Kickboxing Champion Superbon Singha Mawynn (113-34 kickboxing, 3-0 ONE Championship) will defend his strap against 2021 ONE Featherweight Kickboxing Grand Prix Champion Chingiz Allazov (59-5, 1 NC kickboxing, 3-1 ONE Championship.)
As with all kickboxing title bouts, the ONE on Prime Video 6 main event will be a maximum of five rounds at three minutes per round to close the show. The three-knockdown rule will be in effect on Friday, as well.
Should a fighter knock his opponent down three times in the course of a round or four times in a fight, that contestant is declared the winner by TKO.
ONE on Prime Video 6 Main Event Fighter Comparison
Heading into the ONE on Prime Video 6 main event on Friday night, challenger Chingiz Allazov stands as the taller man at 5-foot-11, compared to the 5-foot-10 frame of champion Superbon Singha Mawynn. In addition, Allazov owns a 71.3-inch reach, with no such information for Superbon.
Ordinarily, at this point in the article, we would mention who has the edge in this fight according to the oddsmakers. At press time, no such information was accessible online. If you plan on wagering on this or any other fight happening this weekend, please wager responsibly.
Superbon Ready to Finally Meet Allazov on Friday
Superbon Singha Mawynn enters Friday’s headliner having gone 5-0 in his last five kickboxing fights as part of an ongoing eight-fight winning streak across all promotions dating back to 2016. Most recently, he scored a unanimous decision victory against Marat Grigorian (66-12-1 kickboxing, 3-1 ONE Championship) in March of last year.
This is the third time that Superbon and Allazov were scheduled to meet for the championship. Initially, the fight was booked on Sept. 30 in ONE on Prime Video 2 but was scrapped before the event due to the latter sustaining an injury. Subsequently, they were to fight last month in ONE on Prime Video 5, but Superbon fell ill.
Thus, after two failed bookings, the two will finally get into the ring this Friday, and Superbon can’t wait for the ONE on Prime Video 6 main event.
“Both Chingiz and I are in the top form,” Superbon said in an interview. “This fight will be super exciting. He wants my belt and I want to beat every fighter in the ranking. It’s now or never for me and Chingiz. If we miss this chance; I don’t know when we will have a chance to fight again. I would say this fight is the fight every kickboxing fan must watch.”
The anticipation is just about over. Can Superbon defend the title? Watch and find out.
Chingiz Allazov Looks to Ride Momentum of Three-Fight Win Streak
In the other corner, Chingiz Allazov, the 2021 ONE Championship Featherweight Kickboxing Grand Prix Champion, has gone 4-1 in his last five appearances. He’s won three fights in a row going into the ONE on Prime Video 6 main event, including a unanimous decision victory in March of last year versus Sitthichai Sitsongpeenong (128-33-5 kickboxing, 3-2 ONE Championship) in ONE X.
Before the initial cancellation of the fight against Superbon, Allazov was interviewed by the promotion, promising that he had a bag of tricks ready to go.
“I have been waiting for this fight,” Allazov said. “I think Superbon is a good fighter, he has a good style. He is a really clever fighter and has good timing. I like this fight, and my team and I are only focused on this. I will have a surprise for him when we meet.”
Although the surprise package’s delivery has been postponed twice over, barring any further developments, it’s expected to arrive on Friday. Can he come through with a victory?
Analysis, Film Study, and Prediction
Stylistically, the ONE on Prime Video 6 main event looks to favor Superbon Singha Mawynn, a Muay-Thai fighter who’s won four gold medals in international competition, compared to Chingiz Allazov’s background as a Muay-Thai fighter, kickboxer, and boxer. Since this is a stand-up fight, one shot can end the show.
Watch For Superbon’s Head Kicks
Superbon has been known to be lethal with the head kick, something that he illustrated in his Oct. 15, 2021 fight against Giorgio Petrosyan. In the second round of a scheduled five, the latter began by landing a punch, but Superbon kept him honest with leg kicks. Petrosyan attempted to put Superbon in a clinch, but the referee broke them up and called time.
This mattered little as Superbon landed a cleanly-placed kick to the head just 20 seconds into the period to drop Petrosyan down and out to end the fight. If he lands as little as one blow to the head, the ONE on Prime Video 6 main event will be his.
Allazov Can Also Make Quick Work of His Opponents
In the other corner, Chingiz Allazov can finish his adversary in quick work. Samy Sana found this out the hard way in October of 2021.
Although the fight was scheduled for three rounds at three minutes per round, Allazov needed just a few seconds to end the bout. He started with a high kick and only poured it on with the strikes from there, peppering Sana with an uppercut and a kick to the body.
The barrage of shots forced Sana to retreat against the cage fence, but it only left him susceptible to more unanswered blows. A shot to the body from Allazov knocked him down, with the referee waving off the fight after the 10-count reached eight.
If Allazov throws punches in bunches, look for Friday to be a short night.
Final Thoughts
Don’t blink or you might miss the action of the ONE on Prime Video 6 main event. This one could end very quickly, so one final piece of advice: Pay the pizza guy before the fight starts.
Prediction: Chingiz Allazov by Second-Round TKO.
