NFL Weekly Report: Draft Week Is Upon Us

Eagles Waste No Time Getting Hurts Extension Done

Eagles GM Howie Roseman wasted no time getting this massive and lucrative extension done. Hurts signs the richest contract in NFL history with a 5-year contract worth $255 Million. $179 Million of this contract is fully guaranteed with potential incentives pushing it to a guarantee of $ 200 Million. It’s unlikely that you will hear any Eagles fan complain about this contract as Hurts will keep them in the title hunt as long as he stays healthy and continues to improve, as he has with every year in Philadelphia.

Allen Robinson Headed To Pittsburgh

The Rams have traded WR Allen Robinson to the Steelers with them also swapping 7th round picks to complete the deal. The Steelers will also pay about $10 Million of his salary with LA covering the final $5 Million. Robinson is coming off his worst year of his career as the Rams couldn’t find a way to use him and never really got going at all during the season. This will be a much-needed fresh start for Robinson and he will join a wide receiver room that already contains Dionate Johnson and budding star George Pickens.

Trey Lance On The Move?

Reports have surfaced about the availability of current 49ers QB Trey Lance. After a season ending injury de-railed his season, the 49ers turned to the, now, emerging Brock Purdy. San Francisco is not making the call, but they are listening to some offers as we would typically see before the draft. If Purdy’s rehab from UCL surgery is on a good path for him to be ready for training camp, then San Francisco should make this move. They signed Sam Darnold for even more insurance this offseason as well. They gave up 3 first round picks to move up and grab Lance in the 2021 draft. Teams to watch for his services would be Tennessee, Tampa Bay, Minnesota and Houston.

Bills Safety Damar Hamlin Plans To Return

Hamlin has been cleared by doctors to return to the football field for the upcoming season. He revealed that he suffered commotio cordis, which is a rare cause of cardiac arrest. It occurs with a blow to the chest at a precise location during a moment of the beating heart. He was dead on the field but was saved by the quick response of the Buffalo Bills medical response team. Hamlin’s remarkable story will continue this season as he has already begun to resume off season workouts with the team.

Gambling Suspensions

Five NFL players were suspended for violating the NFL gambling policy. Detroit Lions WR Quintez Cephus and Safety CJ Moore along with Washington Commanders DE Shaka Toney have been suspended for the entire season for betting on NFL games. Also, Lions WR Stanley Berryhill and Jameson Williams were suspended for six games for gambling at an unauthorized location. Meaning he placed a bet at a location that the NFL does not allow. Players cannot bet on NFL games, but they can bet on other sports but not on designated NFL facilities or stadiums. Cephus and Moore were immediately cut from the team upon the decision of the year long suspension. Williams and Berryhill will serve their suspensions and return to the team following. The Commanders have not announced a decision on the status of Shaka Toney.
