A party at the Etihad Stadium. That was what it was, nothing short of that. A 3-0 win over West Ham in their 33rd EPL outing of the season saw Guardiola’s side inch closer to their fifth Premier League crown in seven seasons.

The flow of the game

Manchester City went a point clear at the top of the table for the second time in less than a week courtesy of a 3-0 victory over the Hammers on home ground. It was yet another dominant display from The Citizens on Thursday night as they moved up to 79 points in 33 games with their 25th win of the league season.

West Ham had a chance to break the deadlock in the 29th minute when Jarrod Bowen latched onto a long throw-in from the right side of the pitch. The forward ran across the byline before directing a shot that went straight at Stefan Ortega in goal.

Three minutes later, City had a clear chance on goal. Rodri played a beautiful one-two with Haaland before the Spaniard picked out the left side of the goal with a right-footed attempt that bounced off the post.

Manchester City didn’t find the breakthrough strike till after the break, ten minutes before the hour mark. The hosts got a free-kick from a promising position after Flynn Downes had tripped Jack Grealish to stop City’s attack. Riyad Mahrez curled a dangerous ball into the box and Nathan Ake latched onto it with a confident header.

Haaland had a chance to hit a milestone minutes later. West Ham gave the ball away in the midfield. Mahrez linked up with the Norweigan. The latter rolled a pass to Grealish before dropping forward to receive a lofted pass. Haaland almost got around the keeper, getting a shot away. a clearance from the opposition defence and Grealish struck a chance wide of the post amidst the scramble.

The golden moment came in the 70th minute when City capitalized on a wrong pass from the visitors. Silva played Grealish, the striker released Haaland ahead of two West Ham defenders, the forward simply executing a lob beyond the keeper to hit his 35th for the season.

The hosts then added a third in the 85th minute. Riyad Mahrez’s corner-kick followed up by a clearing header fell to Phil Foden outside the box, the Englishman volleyed home hard and the resulting deflection from Emerson helped send it beyond the keeper.

What's next?

Manchester City approach the defining moment of their campaign in the coming days. The Citizens host Leeds on Saturday before travelling to Madrid for their next Champions League fixture where they are set to rub eyeballs with Los Blancos at the Santiago Bernabeu. Guardiola’s side failed to advance beyond the Spanish powerhouse last season, capitulating to Ancelotti’s boys in a 6-5 defeat on aggregate, having held a one-goal advantage from a 4-3 win in England before losing 3-1 at the Bernabeu.

City are also one point ahead of Arsenal despite having a game in hand but should be able to clinch the league given their incredible form. The defending Premier League Champions are unbeaten in their last nineteen games across all competitions, having last lost 1-0 to Tottenham on February 5.
