A slow news week this week but a few notable occurrences as we dive into this weeks, Overtime Heroics NFL Weekly Report!
Quinnen Williams and The Jets “Not Close” On Contract Extension
According to reports, Williams and the Jets are not close on extension talks. Williams is coming off a 12 sack season and was named All-Pro for his position. Jets GM Joe Douglas says he is “optimistic” about a deal getting done, however Williams does not agree with that sentiment. He posted some cryptic posts on social media that appear to show the opposite. In fact his Twitter bio no longer acknowledges that he plays for the Jets. His salary range would imply around $25 Million and with New York committing to Aaron Rodgers and his WR core, it appears that Williams might be the odd man out.

NFL Schedule Released
Thursday the full NFL schedule was released to the masses and while we have known who each team would be playing this season, we now have the dates and times for nearly every single game. Only 4 teams will not have any primetime representation this season. Those teams are Indianapolis, Arizona, Houston and Atlanta all have questions at quarterback and greatly lowered their chance of interest amongst the viewers. However, they have increased the number of international games this season with games in Frankfurt, Germany. Week 1 gets started in a big way with Opening Night kickoff with Detroit taking on Kansas City in Arrowhead and concludes with another solid divisional matchup with the Buffalo Bills heading across the state to on Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets on Monday Night Football. This will be on September 11th and marks the 22nd Anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attack in New York City
Za’Darius Smith Traded To The Browns
The Minnesota Vikings have traded three-time Pro Bowl pass rushers Za’Darius Smith to the Cleveland Browns. Smith goes to the Browns along with a 2025 6th round and 7th round picks and the Vikings receive back-to-back 5th round picks in 2024 and 2025. This is essentially an upgrade for Cleveland as they chose not to bring back Jadaveon Clowney. For Minnesota, this is essentially a salary dump as they did draft some guys on the defensive side of the ball in last month’s draft. But for Smith, it allows him to continue to collect guaranteed money and he gets to free agency one season sooner if things don’t work out in Cleveland next season.

OL Isaiah Wynn Heads To Miami
The now former New England offensive lineman moves to a division rival after starting 40 games for the New England Patriots. Wynn signed a one-year deal with the Miami Dolphins with terms of the new deal not disclosed. He has been plagued by injuries throughout his career in New England but when he plays he has been effective. He brings depth to the offensive line in Miami, as he can play both Guard and Tackle spots. Expect him to compete for a starting job but will most likely be a backup swing lineman.
