The Arizona Cardinals are bracing for impact in what could potentially be a long season ahead. They’ve made three trades within a one-week span with roughly two weeks remaining before the start of the 2023-24 NFL Season.
The Cardinals are widely expected to be one of the worst teams in football this season and contend for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Their franchise quarterback Kyler Murray is still rehabbing from a torn ACL he suffered last season and his timetable to return has yet to be determined.
They cut ties with notable NFL veterans and locker room leaders this offseason such as DeAndre Hopkins and J.J. Watt and have also hired a rookie head coach in Jonathan Gannon.
General manager Monti Ossenfort and the Cardinals front office have been busy this offseason. This week, they sent hybrid safety/linebacker to the New York Giants for a seventh-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Offensive Tackle Josh Jones was sent to the Houston Texans in exchange for a fifth-round pick.
The team is loading up on draft capital with an eye toward the future:

Per NFL on CBS’ lead insider Jonathan Jones, the Cardinals received Josh Dobbs and a seventh-round pick yesterday in exchange for a fifth-round pick. The acquisition of Dobbs could suggest that Murray is still early in his recovery process.
The Cardinals are the only team in the NFL with an expected win total lower than five games for the 2023-24 season across sportsbooks.
