NBA 2K League “The Ticket” Tournament Leaves Us Questioning Who Will Secure $180K and Playoff Positioning
With $180k on the line, there’s no room for mistakes. However, so far, four teams have managed to cause major upsets in the NBA 2K League “The Ticket” Tournament powered by AT&T at Full Sail University in Orlando, FL. Now a group of underdogs is doing whatever it takes to grab the bag and bring home a Championship.
The world of eSports has shifted its focus to the second season of the NBA 2K League where currently 21 teams represent 21 NBA franchises. The second tournament of the season not only has a huge purse up for grabs but also holds an automatic position for the playoffs.
#16 ranked (after tournament play) Heat Check Gaming pulled out a win against the #1 ranked, 10-1 Blazer5 Gaming on Day 2 of “The Ticket” tourney.
Hotshot (PF) turned up the heat with his impactful gameplay while managing 34 pts, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, & 1 steal. Top highlight of the game would include his posterizing dunk on the league’s top contender for MVP, OneWildNut. Hotshot finished the game by putting Heat Check Gaming up by three with the game ending at 53-50. I will say, I was one of the many people going into the tourney, that felt this game was a no question win for the Blazer5 Gaming and this upset was one of many that had us shook.
The feeling of shock continued as my hometown team, #2 Mavs Gaming fell to the Knicks Gaming. Dimez (PG) dished out an amazing 11 assists, but with 5 assists, it seemed like those efforts didn’t mean as much. And while my MVP, round 1 pick PeteBeBallin (C) was close to a double-double, he put up 18 points, 9 rebounds, & 2 steals. It was clear that Knicks Gaming, Season 1 league Champions, were focused on securing their position and finishing business. Without Knicks Gaming, star player, G O O F Y 7 5 7, 2019 first round pick, OriginalMalik (SF) stepped up in a major way. He shot 11 for 21 from the floor scoring a game-high 26 points. The second game on Friday night, June 14th ended with Knicks Gaming winning 63-65.
Hometown Heroes Magic Gaming are ranked #8 and 6-5 in the regular season. After their single elimination game against the #9 Grizz Gaming, they came out with a win 54-62. Reizey (PG) dominated with 32 pts, 7 assists, & 1 steal, while KingCamRoyalty (C) kept the game active with 11 pts, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals. They matchup with Heat Check Gaming today.
This tournament has been filled with many surprises. Many are desperate to get their hands on the $180k purse and others need that playoff position to with the League Championship. My overall prediction is that Warriors Gaming Squad will win it all with Gradiant leading the pack, and BSmoove, 5th in the league in average points per game at 19.0, being “The Ticket” powered by A&T MVP.
