Michael Thomas is Worth Every Penny

Michael Thomas’ performances undoubtedly place him as one of the best receivers in the NFL. And according to @diannaESPN, it won’t be long before he is paid like it.

New Orleans Saints 2019

Per NFL.com, Saints GM Mickey Loomis told Mad Dog Sports Radio:

“He’s a fantastic player, one of the best at his position in the league, and hopefully we can keep him a Saint for a long time as well.”

After locking up Cam Jordan on a three-year deal, Thomas is the next priority for New Orleans. There will be those who believe it’s a mistake to pay Michael Thomas top receiver money, but talents like his don’t come along every day. Plain and simple; Pay the man. It would be a mistake to not get this deal done.

With a Twitter handle like @CantGuardMike, Thomas’ bite needs to be as good as his bark. Fortunately, the two-time Pro Bowler doesn’t just talk the talk. Michael Thomas walks the walk. Last season, his absurd 125 receptions  were the most in NFL. And his 1,405 yards ranked sixth among qualifying receivers. Thomas averages a 139 targets, 107 receptions, and nearly 1,300 yards per season. Looking at MT13’s volume of work, it becomes clear how important he is to this Saints team. In 2018, Drew Brees’ attempted 489 passes. Thomas led the team in target share raking in 33% of the team’s passing targets. He did this while also accounting for more than 35% of the teams receiving yardage! His three -year career accolades are even more jaw-dropping.

Michael Thomas Accolades (2016 – 2018)
  • Receptions Top-10 (2016, 2017, 2018)
  • Receiving Yards Top-10 (2016 , 2017, 2018)
  • Receiving Touchdowns Top-10 (2016, 2018)
  • All-Rookie Team (2016)
  • Pro-Bowl Appearances (2017, 2018)
  • First Team All-Pro (2018)

Thomas’ played a role in the Saints playoff success in his career thus far as well. In 2017, the Saints lost to the “Minneapolis Miracle”, but in the game before he balled out. Pulling in 8 receptions for 131 yards against the Panthers.

Then in 2018, he helped send the team to the NFC championship. Facing Philadelphia in the divisional round, Thomas went wild. Reeling in 12 receptions for 171 yards and a score.

Odell Beckham may currently hold the title of “highest-paid receiver.” Banking in at $18 million per year. However, all signs point to Michael Thomas eclipsing that contract and maybe even OBJ’s title as best wide receiver in the NFL.
