R.J. Barrett Is Best Choice For the New York Knicks

There have been questions as to who the New York Knicks would pick in this year’s NBA draft. First there was talk about whether or not the Knicks could get the number one prospect in the draft Zion Williamson.

Since it looks like the Knicks don’t have a shot at getting Williamson, the question is who should they get. According to Jeremy Woo of Sports Illustrated the Knicks wil draft either R.J Barrett or Ja Morant. Who should the Knicks choose?

Ja Morant

Morant is the number two prospect in this year’s draft. Last season he averaged 24.6 points, 10 assists and 5.7 rebounds.

He is a natural and instinctive playmaker, has great passing vision and has great athleticism. Until his sophmore season in college he was a nobody and was under the rader. He has the abitily and the talent to be a star in the NBA.

One reason for the Knicks to not draft Morant is we don’t know where he wants to go. We don’t know if he is interested or wants to play for the Knicks. However Morant is looking to playing in Madison Square Garden regardless of who he plays for, according to Marc Berman of the New York Post.

R.J. Barrettt

Barrett is expected to be drafted by the Knicks as the third overall pick. He has worked out with the Knicks and said the New York and the Knicks is where he wants to be, per Scott Thompson of SNY.

Barrett told Ian Begley of SNY that being drafted by the Knicks would mean a lot to him.

“It would mean a lot. My late grandfather, rest in peace, he was the biggest Knicks fan. He always told me I’d play for the Knicks. So it would mean a lot for me to play for the team.”

As a freshman Barrett averaged 22.6 points, 4.3 assists, and 7.6 rebounds. He became the first player in NCAA history to have at least 850 points, 250 rebounds, and 150 assists in a season.

Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski believes that Barrett will shine in New York.

RJ will flourish here in New York.He wants to be here. He is so mature. He just turned 19 last Friday, but he’s been a part of the Canadian basketball program since [he was] a little guy, always played up,” he said on his SiriusXM radio show, per Zack Rosenblatt of NJ.com. “This kid is a multi-dimensional player. He would start right away. He has the potential to be a double-double guy. He’s a great defensive rebounder, and if he gets the defensive rebound he can push, and he can play one through four. Because he can pass, too. As he grows, there’ll be times in this kid’s career where the triple-double will happen more than once. He’s a star. There’s no question. Beautiful, beautiful kid.”

Between Barrett and Morant the Knicks should choose Barrett. While both of them wil be stars in the NBA, Barrett is a little bit better than Morant right now.

Barrett is also a better fit for the KNicks than Morant. Should Barrett for some reason be unavailable to the Knicks, then they should pick Morant but that’s unlikely to happen.
