Colby Covington and Robbie Lawler have both verbally agreed to a main event fight set for August 3rd according to Brett Okamoto of ESPN. This bout will headline UFC on ESPN 5 which takes place at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. This is the same card that will feature the fight between Clay Guida and Jim Miller as we previously reported.
This is an interesting moved since the outspoken welterweight Colby Covington was suppose to get the next title shot against the champ Kamaru Usman. The welterweight champion, however, is dealing with some nagging injuries and won’t be ready to go until around November. Covington has not lost since December 2015 and has a superb record of 14-1. Colby won the Interim UFC welterweight championship in June 2018 against Rafael dos Anjos but has not fought since then.
Robbie Lawler (28-13-1) has been on a bit of a downward slide as of late. Lawler has lost 3 of his last 4 fights and is looking to have a big rebound against the number 2 ranked UFC welterweight. Robbie won the UFC welterweight title back in December 2014 and had two successful title defenses before losing to Tyron Woodley.
UFC on ESPN 5 is shaping up to be one hell of a card!
