TRADE: Coyotes Acquire Kessel From Penguins

Phil Kessel

The Pittsburgh Penguins have traded Phil Kessel, Dane Birks and a 2021 fourth round pick to the Arizona Coyotes for Alex Galchenyuk and Pierre-Olivier Joseph.

This marks the second time in two years that Galchenyuk has been traded. He joins his third National Hockey League team and he just turned 25. He also crosses back over to the Eastern Conference and gets to play his old team the Montreal Canadiens more than just one time a season. In the 2018-19 season, he posted 41 points (19 goals, 22 assists) in 72 games with the Coyotes.

As for Kessel, this will be the third time he moves teams after having been acquired from the Toronto Maple Leafs by the Penguins in 2015. He has spent the past four seasons with them. In the 2018-19 season, he posted 82 points (27 goals, 55 assists) in 82 games. He has also been quite the iron man, appearing in every game over the past nine seasons.

More to come.
