UFC Minneapolis PLAY-BY-PLAY & LIVE RESULTS

UFC Minneapolis goes down Saturday, June 29 and our play-by-play plus live results for the main card starts here at 6:15 p.m. PT (9:15 p.m. ET). The event will take place at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Francis Ngannou (13-3) will take on former UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos (21-5) in the highly anticipated main event with title implications. In the co-main event Joseph Benavidez (27-5) will face Jussier Formiga (23-5) in a flyweight title eliminator as well.

NEXT FIGHT

Heavyweight: Francis Ngannou vs. Junior dos Santos

Round 1:

You can feel the tension in the air. They come to the center of the octagon. Dos Santos lands a huge leg kick. They exchange a few punches and then Ngannou fires his own hard leg kick on dos Santos. Dos Santos over swings a punch which causes him to turn his back to Ngannou. Ngannou lands a punch direct to the jaw of dos Santos. Dos Santos drops to the ground and Ngannou finishes the fight with ground and pound.

Decision: Francis Ngannou def. Junior dos Santos TKO (punches) RD 1 1:11

Flyweight: Jussier Formiga  vs. Joseph Benavidez

Round 1:

The round starts and both Formiga and Benavidez get going early. Benavidez looks to establish his leg kick as he connects hard to Formiga’s mid-section. Formiga and Benavidez come together and a scramble ensues. Formiga takes Benavidez’s back for a short time until there is another scramble. They get back to their feet and Formiga threatens a guillotine choke. Benavidez avoids the choke and then presses Formiga against the cage. They separate and the round ends.

Round 2:

Formiga and Benavidez strike for a bit until Formiga gets a take down. Benavidez quickly reverses the position and Joseph ends up on top. Benavidez gets to the guard position and works there. Formiga scrambles and gets back to his feet. Benavidez hits another hard body kick followed by a calf kick. Benavidez lands a huge head kick! Formiga is definitely hurt! Joseph lands a furry of punches and Formida drops to the floor. The ref steps in and ends the fight!

Decision: Joseph Benavidez def. Jussier Formiga TKO (head kick and punches) RD 2 4:47

Welterweight: Demian Maia  vs. Anthony Rocco Martin

Round 1:

Maia and Martin come to the center of the octagon. They are pretty much just feeling each other out. Maia gets Martin to the cage and then quickly takes him down. Martin manages to get back to his feet and then puts Maia against the cage. They separate and the round ends shorty after.

Round 2:

They come together again while trading punches here and there. Maia gets another take down. Maia maintains position for most of the round. The ref stands them up with roughly 24 seconds left in the round. Martin gets a take down but Maia quickly reverse the position and ends up on top. The round is over.

Round 3:

Once again Martin and Maia spend most of the round exchange simple punches here and there. Martin lands a strong right hand with roughly 45 seconds remaining. The punch hurts Maia, while Martin continues to press the action. Maia pulls guard and Martin trys to land ground and pound. The round ends.

Decision:  Demian Maia def. Anthony Rocco Martin Decision (majority) (29-28, 29-28, 28-28) RD 3 5:00

Lightweight: Roosevelt Roberts vs. Vinc Pichel

Round 1:

Roberts and Pichel meet in the middle of the octagon. They strike back and forth until Pichel presses Roberts against the cage 90 seconds into the fight. Pichel and Roberts separate as they return to the center of the cage. Roberts connects with a flying knee to Pichel’s mid-section. Pichel doesn’t seem to react to the flying knee. Pichel presses Roberts against the cage again. Roberts reverse the position and now forces Pichel against the cage. Roberts attempts a take down but Pichel separates. Roberts connects on a few punches, goes for a take down. Roberts gets the take down and then takes the back. Pichel fines his way back to his feet. Pichel gets a take down on Roberts now. The bell sounds and the round is over.

Round 2:

Pichel presses the action and begins throwing leg kicks. Pichel goes for the take down and gets it. He starts unleashing some ground and pound onto Roberts. Roberts gets back to his feet, presses Pichel against the cage, and then they separate. Robert goes for another take down, gets it, and takes the back. Roberts loses control while Pichel ends up on top. Pichel advances to mount position as the round ends.

Round 3:

Pichel immediately presses the action on Roberts. Pichel and Roberts exchange back and forth for a bit until Pichel gets a take down. They end up in the north/south position. Roberts gets back to his feet but Pichel goes for the guillotine. Roberts escapes the submission but Pichel lands a spinning elbow. Pichel gets another take down and takes Roberts’  back. Pichel transitions into a full mount and starts raining down elbows. Roberts sneaks out the back and they return to the feet. The round ends.

Decision: Vinc Pichel def. Roosevelt Roberts Decision (unanimous) (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) RD 3 5:00

Lightweight: Drew Dober vs. Marco Polo Reyes

Round 1:

Drew Dober and Marco Polo Reyes come out swinging immediately. Reyes gets hit with a left and is dropped. Dober goes to the ground with Reyes and attempts to end the fight. Reyes scrambles to his feet and they are back to striking. Dober starts a flurry of punches, he connects a left directly to the chin of Reyes and he goes down again! Dober runs in for the finish and the ref stops the fight!

Decision: Drew Dober def. Marco Polo Reyes TKO (punches) RD 1 1:07

Light Heavyweight: Alonzo Menifield vs. Paul Craig

Round 1:

Alonzo Menifield starts off swinging first. Menifield then presses Craig against the cage and they clinch. They stay clinched for a bit and then separate.  Craig goes for a couple of take downs but are stuffed by Menifeld. Craig goes for a spinning kick, he misses and falls to the floor. Menifield pounces on him and throws two huge right hands to the grounded Craig. Craig is knocked out!

Decision: Alonzo Menifield def. Paul Craig KO (punches) RD 1 3:19
