Injury Bug: Luke Voit Becomes Latest Injured Yankee

The 2019 season has been filled with good and bad news for the New York Yankees. The good news is that they are having a great season. The bad news is their players keep getting injured.

First baseman Luke Voit is the latest Yankee to get injured. The Yankees put Voit on the 10-day injured list on Tuesday after he suffered an abdominal strain during Saturday’s game against the Boston Red Sox in London.

“I kind of felt it going around first,” Voit said on Saturday, per Chad Thornburg of MLB.com. “It was weird. It kind of freaked me out right when it happened, and I guess there was really no point in me staying in the game. I think that was the right decision.”

The injury bug has been haunting the Yankees all season. Voit is the 22nd Yankee to be put on the injured list, ESPN’s Coley Harvey notes.

Voit’s injury is a huge blow to the Yankees. He is hitting .280 with 17 home runs and 50 RBIs, and is having an All-Star season. It is unknown how long Voit will be out, but the Yankees will want him back as soon as possible.

The Yankees have recalled infielder Mike Ford from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to fill Voit’s spot on the roster. There is a good chance that Edwin Encarnacion will play first base while Voit is out, according to Brendan Kuty of NJ.com.

Encarnacion shouldn’t be playing first base while Voit is out. Ford should get the opportunity because he’s having a good season in Triple-A. Ford is hitting .318 with 19 home runs and 50 RBI’s in Triple-A. In his last seven games, he has hit .333 with three home runs. He deserves a chance to see what he can do in the big leagues.

No matter who plays first while Voit is out, we want him back as soon as possible because the Yankees are better with him in the lineup.
