UFC San Antonio Preview and Info!

Fight night is almost upon us MMA community! The UFC is headed to the Lone Star State for the big ESPN card. UFC San Antonio (UFC on ESPN 4) will take place on July 20, 2019 at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas.

Leon Edwards, UFC San Antonio

The main event will feature Rafael dos Anjos (29-11) vs Leon Edwards (17-3), two top-level welterweights vying for their place on top the division. Former lightweight champ dos Anjos is currently ranked #4 and is coming off a solid win against Kevin Lee back in May. Rafael is 4-2 since moving up to welterweight with his only two losses coming from former interim welterweight champ Colby Covington and current welterweight champ Kamaru Usman. His opponent Leon Edwards has been on an absolute tear in the division. Edwards (#12) is on a 7 fight win streak with notable wins over Gunnar Nelson, Bryan Barberena, Vicente Luque, and Donald Cerrone. Leon hasn’t loss since December of 2015, to the current champ Kamaru Usman. With the welterweight division being so stacked the winner of the this fight probably won’t get a title shot next but it is still an essential fight to the division.

Walt Harris, UFC San Antonio

The co-main event will showcase the heavyweights in a showdown between Aleksei Oleinik (57-12-1) and Walt Harris (12-7-1). Clearly, Oleinik (#9) has a massive experience advantage with a total of 70 professional MMA fights. He will look to bounce back after suffering a first round TKO loss to Alistair Overeem in his last outing. Aleksei has been with the UFC since 2014, amassing six wins and four ‘Performance of the Night’ awards. Walt Harris (#14) will look to take out the experienced veteran to climb his way higher through the heavyweight rankings. Harris’ run through the UFC has been anything but smooth going 5-6 (1). However, Walt has won his last three fights but his split decision win over Andrei Arlovski was overturned for testing positive for a banned substance. Walt Harris’ last fight was an impressive 50 second TKO win of Sergey Spivak. This should be a very entertaining match-up in the heavyweight division.

There will be four more fights on the main card, including a rematch 11 years in the making between Andrei Arlovski (27-18-2) and Ben Rothwell (36-11). The polarizing Greg Hardy (4-1) is back in action taking on Juan Adams (5-1). Alexander Hernandez (10-2) is looking to rebound after his first UFC loss as he faces Francisco Trinaldo (23-6). Finally, in a must win lightweight match-up, James Vick (13-3) takes on Dan Hooker (17-8).
