We are coming off a fantastic 2019 NBA season. In addition to the great season we were treated to a amazing after party. This offseason was one the craziest summer in NBA free agency history, there were plenty of blockbuster moves. As a result, the 2020 MVP odds are swirling. Let’s dive into the early MVP odds for the 2020 season.
T-4 LAC- Kawhi Leonard +700
“The Klaw”, who shocked everyone in his hush-hush move to the Clippers this summer is coming off a stellar year. The two time champion will be joined by six time All Star, Paul George. This is a highly regarded defensive team that will look to take the title in a tough Western Conference.
Opinion: Kawhi’s playing time will be flexible, similarly with his time in Toronto. Keeping that in mind some think he will finish outside the top, he will have a spectacular year playing in his hometown.
T-4 LAL- LeBron James +700
The Lakers missed out on the Kawhi Leonard sweepstakes this summer, however, that didn’t stop their powerful summer. The huge trade for Anthony Davis gave LeBron the much needed star power in LA. In addition, to getting Davis, the Lakers were able to grab solid role players to pair with the star duo. The biggest names include Danny Green, Demarcus Cousins, and Quinn Cook. Secondly, LA were able to get back JaVale McGee, Rajon Rondo, and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.
Opinion- After a busy, but productive summer, the Lakers are a in a position to win a title this year. Making the author’s selection for the 2020 MVP to be none other than, LeBron James.
T-4 LAL- Anthony Davis +700
Arguably the best big man in the league, AD joins LeBron James and the Lakers as he looks for his first championship. Given his past situation in New Orleans he is hungry and ready to go farther into the postseason. He has the best chance of his career to do just that with LeBron and Kyle Kuzma.
Opinion- The purple and gold will be fun to watch this year. AD is going to be A leader, however not the main figure. Davis should have a amazing year playing with Lebron and cast but will fall out of the top 3 for MVP.
3rd HOU- James Harden +600
Harden had yet another disappointing finish to his season last year. This loss to Golden State without Kevin Durant being in the lineup has to weigh heavily on him. However, with an off season to regroup and Houston making a trade to acquire Russell Westbrook from the Thunder, Harden will be looking to compete at a high level with a determined Western Conference.
Opinion- Harden being the scorer he is, will have another top 3 season in the voting. He should land in 3rd in the rankings for MVP as he battles this year.
2nd GS- Stephen Curry +500
Curry, who came off the finals lost during game six to the Raptors, has great odds to hoist the trophy next season. This season will be different than what he was previously used to. Golden State lost Kevin Durant in free agency, as he is on his way to Brooklyn, Quinn Cook departed to the Lakers and Klay Thomson will be injured for at least half the season.
Opinion- The Warriors did obtain D’angelo Russell from the Nets in the off season deal giving them more star talent. They will still have Draymond Green, who is an anchor for their team. How does Steph reacts to all this? He will finish close to Harden in the race with a slight advantage going to Harden.
1st MIL- Giannis Antetokounmpo +300
“The Greek Freak” had a career year for himself with accomplishments including an All Star captain selection and a MVP trophy. The Bucks are a favorite to win the title next year, despite the surprise loss of Malcom Brogdon. If Giannis can post stats as good or better as last year, he will no doubt be a finalist for next years MVP.
Opinion- The MVP trophy has secretly somewhat been about the postseason. Therefore, LeBron has the edge in winning another close race next year.
