In the 2018-2019 season, the Dallas Mavericks finished 15th in the Western conference and ended the season with a 33-49 record. This made it the third year in a row that the Mavericks would not make an appearance in the playoffs. Although the season was not all bad, Luka Doncic showed flashes of greatness in his rookie season. Doncic also won the Rookie of the Year award along with being All-Rookie First Team.

2019 Draft & Free Agency

Draft day this year was not the most thrilling for the Mavericks. The Mavericks and Detroit Pistons exchanged picks in a trade. With the 37th pick, the Mavericks drafted Deividas Sirvydis, whom they sent to the Pistons. In return, they received the 45th pick Isaiah Roby, a 6’7″ Power Forward from Nebraska. Roby has looked promising in his first few games of summer league and has been holding his own.

On the other had, free agency has not been quiet for the Mavericks. The team started off by signing Kristaps Porzingis to a three-year $158 million deal. Porzingis is projected to make his return this year after sitting out last year due to injury. Then, the Mavericks extended Dwight Powell for three-year $33 million deal. After this, the Mavericks went on to sign Seth Curry to a four-year $32 million deal. Curry had played with the Mavericks prior to his year with the Portland Trail Blazers and finished his last year shooting 45% from three. The Mavericks went on the sign Dorian Finney-Smith to a three-year $12 million deal and Boban Marjanovic to a two-year deal. Finally, the Mavericks landed Delon Wright from the Memphis Grizzlies through a sign and trade for three-year $29 million deal.

2019-2020 Season Outlook

The Mavericks are going into the season as a team that needs to prove itself. The Western Conference looks to be as tough as ever with more star free agents joining the conference. We have yet to see the duo of Doncic and Porzingis play together. If the team as a whole can create some good chemistry, they could possible take a playoff spot.
