OTH- Daily Odds 8/4/19 is part of a daily series providing you with the odds for all major sports being played that day.
1:05 EST White Sox @ Phillies – The White Sox and Phillies have each won one game by one run in this series. Both games have been lower scoring games (4-3 and 3-2). Sunday has two pitchers on the mound that had horrible starts to the season, but have been better in recent starts. Reynaldo Lopez has given up two runs or less in his last four starts. Drew Smyly has given up one run in 13 innings for Philadelphia. Lopez has an ERA of 5.43 for the season, and Smyly has an ERA of 6.85. The stats show that these recent outings go against the trends of the season, which suggest that some bad outings may be on the horizon today. We like the overs in this game.
Picks: Sox Over 3.5(-145), Phillies Over 4.5(-145), First 5 Innings Over 5(-120), Yes to a run in the 1st(-140)
1:05 EST Blue Jays @ Orioles – The Blue Jays will be looking to bounce back after their loss to the Orioles last night. Starting today for Toronto will be Sean Reid-Foley. He comes into the game with a 1-1 record and a 2.55 ERA. Sean Reid-Foley looked great in his last start against the Royals allowing four hits and no runs. Jimmy Yacabonis will take the mound for the Orioles this afternoon. He has struggled in every single role he has been in this year. He has given up an astounding 31 earned runs in 38 innings of work. Look for the Blue Jays bats to knock Yacabonis out of the game early today.
Picks: Jays (-150), Jays -0.5 First Five Innings (-125), Jays Over 5.5 (-140), First 5 Over 6.5 (-110)
1:10 EST Angels @ Indians – The Indians have been dominant against the Angels at Progressive Field. The Indians are 14-1 in their last 15 games against the Angels in Cleveland. Today, the Angels send Jaime Barria to the mound. Barria is 2-3 with a 10.62 ERA in 5 road games this season. The Indians send Shane Bieber to the mound, who had given up three runs or less in eight of his last nine starts. Even though he has been worse at home this year than in the road (4.02 ERA at home, 2.79 on the road), the Indians will overcome that and continue their dominance against the Angels. The Indians have scored six or more runs in six of their last eight games, and the Angels have lost seven of their last nine games.
Picks: Cleveland -1.5(-115), Cleveland -0.5(-145), Cleveland over 5.5(+100), f5 over 5(-120), Game Over 9(-120)
1:10 EST Marlins @ Rays – Caleb Smith and the Marlins take on Yonny Chirinos and the Rays this afternoon. The Marlins have won each of Smith’s last five starts. Smith has been great for the Marlins this year allowing more than three runs only three times this season. His last loss came all the back on June 6. Yonny Chirinos is coming off one of his worst outings of the year, allowing seven runs in four innings of work. Look for the Marlins to get to Chorines early in the game.
Picks: Marlins (+160), Marlins +.5 1st Five (-115), Over 4.5 1st Five (105)
1:20 EST Reds @ Braves – The Braves and the Reds wrap up their four game series this afternoon in Atlanta. Julio Teheran will be starting for the Braves. Teheran has been outstanding lately allowing two runs earned runs or fewer in each of his last six starts. In four starts since the All-Star break Teheran has allowed just five total earned runs. Starting for the Reds will be Sonny Gray. Gray has allowed more than three earned runs only three times this season in 21 starts. Expect this to be a low scoring game until the bullpens get involved.
Picks: Under 5 1st Five (-120), Reds under 4.5 (-135)
2:10 EST Royals @ Twins – This pitching match-Up features Brad Keller vs. Devin Smeltzer. Smeltzer was a last minute change for Jake Odorizzi. Smeltzer has been good in July, giving up two runs in 9 and ⅓ innings in his two appearances. On the season, he is 0-1 with a 2.91 ERA. Brad Keller has been pitching better in recent games, giving up two earned runs or less in four of his last five starts. In his last two road starts, he has given up one run in 12 and ⅓ innings pitched. The Royals have scored under 5 runs in 10 of their last 13 games. We like the unders in this game.
Picks: KC Under 4.5(-140), Minn Under 5.5(-110), First 5 Under 6(-120)
2:10 EST Mariners @ Astros – The Astros completed a team no hitter on Saturday against the Mariners. Now, the Astros throw Justin Verlander at the Mariners. In his last start against Seattle(which was in Houston), he gave up four runs in five innings. The Mariners will start with an opener and then most likely turn to Tommy Milone. Milone is 1-4 with a 4.39 ERA. In his five July appearances, he gave up at least five runs in three of them. The Astros bats have been on fire lately, scoring at least six runs in their last three games and five of their last seven. Look for them to stay hot on Sunday.
Picks: Houston Over 5.5(-140), Seattle Over 2.5(-140), First 5 Over 5(-120), Game Over 9(-115)
2:20 EST Brewers @ Cubs – The Cubs look for the series sweep against Milwaukee on Sunday. They send Yu Darvish to the mound, who has been much better in recent games. In his last two home starts, he has given up no runs in 12 innings. 7 of his last 8 starts have been games with a total of 9 runs or less. The Brewers will send Adrian Houser to the mound, and they are 2-5 in games that he starts. He has pitched in extended relief three times against the Cubs, and gave up no runs in two of them. In his last start on July 30, Houser gave up one run in five innings. We don’t expect him to go too long today, since he is on three days rest. We like the Cubs in this one, and some unders.
Picks: Cubs(-147), Cubs -0.5 First 5(-110), First 5 Under 5(-120), Game Under 9(-120)
3:05 Tigers @ Rangers – The Rangers come into todays game on a high from their walk off win last night. Pedro Payano will make his second start of the season for the Rangers this afternoon. He has been solid so far pitching a total of 11.1 innings while allowing four earned runs. Jordan Zimmermann finally got the win he had been searching for all season in his last start. Don’t expect that performance to be duplicated today. Prior to his last start he had allowed 51 earned runs in 60.2 innings. Zimmermann is 1-2 on the road this year with a 6.27ERA with hitters batting .280 against him. Expect the Rangers to score plenty of runs against Zimmerman, while Payano has a good day on the mound.
Picks: Rangers Over 5.5 (-140), Rangers -1.5 (-110), Rangers -.5 1st 5 (-135), Tigers under 4.5 (120), Yes to a run in the 1st(-180)
3:10 EST Giants @ Rockies – The Giants and Rockies are sending two sub-par pitchers to the mound. The Rockies send Kyle Freeland, who is 2-9 on the season with a 7.48 ERA. When you look deeper, he is 1-4 with a 10.31 ERA at Coors Field this season. Tyler Beede is pitching for the Giants and he has given up 20 hits and 8 runs in his last two starts. Beede is 3-3 with a 5.73 ERA in nine road games this season. While the lines are high, we like all of the overs in this game.
Picks: Game Over 13(-120), Col Over 6.5(-125), SF Over 6.5 (-105), First 5 Over 7.5(-115), Yes to a run in the 1st(-230)
4:07 EST Cardinals @ Athletics – Even though they are playing an interleague series, the Cardinals get to face a pitcher on Sunday they have seen multiple times this season. Tanner Roark makes his first start for the A’s. Roark gave up four or more runs in three of his five July starts. In nine career games against St Louis, Cardinal hitters are 47 for 151 (.311 batting average) against Roark. The Cardinals send Adam Wainwright to the mound and the Cardinals have won his last five starts. The last loss he had was against Oakland in June 26, when Wainwright lost 2-0. We look for him to get his revenge today and beat the A’s.
Picks: STL (+112), STL +0.5 First 5(-130), STL over 4.5(+110), First 5 Over 5(-115)
4:10 EST Padres @ Dodgers – Kenta Maeda will look to rebound after his last start against the Rockies in which he allowed six runs in four innings. Maeda will have to be on his game to keep up with Chris Paddack. Paddack has been very consistent for the Padres this year allowing three earned runs or fewer in all but two of his starts this season. Since the All-Star break Paddack has held his opponents to a .138 average. Expect Paddack to have another great performance while getting some run support from the offense.
Picks: Padres (+145), Padres 1st 5 (+130), Padres Over 3.5 (-115), Over 8.5 total runs (-115)
4:10 EST Nationals @ DBacks – In the most shocking game in Saturday’s action, the DBacks hammered Stephen Strasburg and the Nationals by the score of 18-7. The Nationals look to rebound on Sunday behind the arm of Patrick Corbin. The Nationals have won seven of his last eight starts. He hasn’t given up more than three runs in those eight starts, and gave up less than three in seven of them. The DBacks will send Taylor Clarke to the hill, who has given up three runs over his last two starts. On the season, he is 4-3 with a 5.53 ERA, and his home numbers are even worse (2-2 with a 6.35 ERA). Look for the Nationals to rebound from last night’s embarrassment and take the final game of this series.
Picks: Wash -1.5(-105), Wash -0.5 First 5(-120), First 5 Over 5(-120), Game Over 9(-120)
7:30 EST DC United vs Union – DC United (-120)
10:00 EST Seattle vs Sporting Kansas City – Seattle -.5 (+100)
